Long Wave UV Lamps
Ultraviolet radiation emitted from this product. Avoid exposure. ALWAYS
WEAR PROTECTIVE CLOTHING. EXPOSURE MAY CAUSE PREMATURE
AGING OF THE SKIN AND CANCER. ALWAYS WEAR PROTECTIVE
EYEWEAR; FAILURE TO DO SO MAY RESULT IN SEVERE BURNS OR LONG
TERM INJURY TO EYE. Never look directly into the lamp. Exposure can
cause eye and skin allergy and allergic reactions. Medications or cosmetics
may increase your sensitivity to ultraviolet radiation. Consult physician
before operating this product if you are using medications or have a history
of skin problems or believe yourself especially sensitive to sunlight.
FOR PROFESSIONAL EXAMINATION USE ONLY
IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
1. Read all instructions.
2. Care must be taken, as burns can occur from touching hot parts.
3. Do not operate the lamp with a damaged cord or if the lamp has been damaged.
4. Do not look directly into the UV light. Wear UV-absorbing protective eyewear (such as
the UVS-30 glasses provided) when operating this or any UV lamp. Never operate the
lamp with the UV filter lens removed.
5. Never operate this equipment in any manner not specified in these instructions because the
protection provided by the equipment may be impaired.
6. Adequate ventilation should be provided when working on operating combustion engines.
7. This unit is not recommended for high-dust environments.
GENERAL INFORMATION
1. Install the UV bulb and the Bulb-Saver™ (packed separately).
2. Connect the plug to a power outlet that complies with the electrical requirements specified on
the lamp's label.
3. Turn ON the lamp. Allow approximately 3 to 5 minutes for the lamp to reach full lighting
intensity. If the lamp fails to light, check that the bulb is completely screwed into the socket.
4. When the lamp is used intermittently and frequently, do not turn it off until the inspection is
complete. Any interruption in the power supply, such as a drop in voltage or changing power
outlets, will cause the bulb to go out. The bulb must then cool for a minimum of 5 minutes
before restarting. Continuous operation will also extend the bulb life.
5. The lamp housing and filter will become hot during continuous operation. Do not touch these
components. We recommend using the optional Spectroline HGS-100A heat guard/stand for
increased protection.
OPERATOR SERVICING
Do not perform any servicing that is not covered in these instructions. Return the lamp to
the factory for maintenance not covered in this section.
HOUSING AND FILTER MAINTENANCE
•
Always unplug the lamp from the power outlet before performing any maintenance or
servicing. Allow the UV lamp to cool before handling.
•
Immediately clean spills from the housing with water and a mild detergent and wipe dry.
Periodically clean the filter with a glass cleaner and a soft cloth.
BULB/FILTER INSTALLATION OR REPLACEMENT
Use only a Spectroline
100S/M UV bulb. Using any other bulb may damage the unit and
®
will void the warranty.
1. Detach the silicone-rubber filter holder by peeling it from around the circumference of the lamp
housing. The filter will remain inside the filter holder. (If replacing the filter, press it firmly but
gently inside the filter holder.) Set the filter holder aside.
2. Place the UV bulb through the Bulb-Saver™/collar in the lamp housing. Turn the bulb
clockwise gently but firmly into the socket with the fingertips. (If removing an existing bulb, turn
it counterclockwise.) Do not operate the lamp without the Bulb-Saver.
3. Reattach the filter holder by pressing it with the heel of your hand around the circumference of
the lamp housing. Be sure the groove in the filter holder seats over the rim of the housing.
UV INTENSITY VERIFICATION
To ensure that your SB-100P is operating at the required UV intensity, it should be checked
periodically. The AccuMAX
XRP-3000 radiometer/photometer kit uses a dual-wavelength
TM
UV-A/VIS sensor detector to accurately measure ultraviolet irradiance or visible light. The
AccuMAX XR-1000 digital readout unit with the XS-365 UV sensor or the Spectroline DM-365XA
digital readout unit are also recommended for accurate UV-A measurement. The meters are
specially designed to measure the UV irradiance from 320–400nm with a peak at 365nm.

Spectronics Corporation. In the U.S. and Canada, call toll-free 1-800-274-8888. Outside the U.S.
and Canada, call 516-333-4840.
SPECIAL PURPOSE FILTERS
•
The SB-100PC Series lamps are equipped with a 2F100C clear filter that reduces transmission
of medium wave (UV-B) and short-wave (UV-C) radiation to safe levels, while permitting high
UV-A energy for curing applications.
•
The SP-100PY semiconductor wafer inspection lamp is equipped with a 2F475Y yellow filter
that blocks the emission of wavelengths shorter than 500nm, protecting against activation of
the photoresist during semiconductor wafer inspection.
•
The SB-100PD Series lamps are equipped with a 2F350 diffusing filter that produces a
"diffused spot" beam of UV-A light.
