supplying hose in an easily visible position near the sera
active reactor 500 or 1000. You must by all means inte-
grate a non-return valve (1.6) into the CO
bubble counter and pressure reducer, as to make sure
no water can get into the attached technical CO
ment (e.g. solenoid valve or pressure reducer).
Before filling in water, make sure the head (6.1) is firmly
screwed onto the lower part of the reactor (6.6) by
hand (do not use any tools for this purpose) and no
water can leak out.
Now you can fill the external filter with water, the sera
flore CO
active reactor 500 or 1000 will then fill with
2
water too. You must briefly turn the unit around or hold
it upside down as to remove air. This will allow air to es-
cape through the outlet tube near the bottom of the
reactor. Repeat this process until there is no air left in-
side the reactor if necessary. Then the sera active reac-
tor 500 or 1000 is brought back into an upright opera-
tion position and fastened.
Installation inside an aquarium without external filter
(fig. 2)
A separate water pump [at least 500 l/h (132 US gal.) for
the sera active reactor 500 or at least 700 l/h (185 US
gal.) for the sera active reactor 1000], connected to the
reactor intake with a hose (2.1), is required for operation
if you wish to use the sera flore CO
or 1000 as a reactor inside the aquarium. The intake
hose should not considerably reduce the pump per-
formance, i.e. it must have a suitable diameter. It may
also be required to attach a hose to the reactor outlet
(2.2) that gives the water beam a certain direction. Now
push the CO
hose onto the CO
2
reactor. A bubble counter (2.4) should be integrated
into the CO
supplying hose in an easily visible position
2
near the reactor. You must by all means integrate a non-
return valve (2.5) into the CO
ble counter, as to make sure no water can get into the
attached technical CO
or pressure reducer).
Start the pump briefly for filling the reactor with water.
You must hold the reactor upside down for a few sec-
onds for making the air escape from the reactor. Repeat
this process until there is no air left inside the reactor if
necessary. Then the reactor is brought back into an up-
right operation position and fastened.
Installation outside an aquarium without external filter
(fig. 3)
This is the same procedure as installation inside an
aquarium, except the reactor is installed e.g. under-
neath the aquarium.
Operation
Now you can start adding CO
ber of added CO
bubbles with your pressure reducer,

one bubble CO
/minute per each 10 liters (2.6 US gal.) of

aquarium water are a guideline. However, the actual re-
quirements depend on growth and demand by the
plants, and may be considerably higher. However, it is
important to first observe and then slowly approach the
actually required CO
amount. During operation you can

watch the moving rotors in the upper part of the reac-
tor that disperse the CO

The reactors can be entirely disassembled (fig. 6). Clean

the separate parts with a cloth or a soft brush without
detergents.
Install the reactor again as described in the according
installation instructions after you have cleaned it. Air
may collect inside the reactor within the first days after
putting it back into operation. You can remove it as de-
scribed in the according installation instructions.
Maintenance
The rotors (6.3 and 6.4) may wear out after having been
in operation for a longer time, also the O-ring seal (6.2)
should be replaced after having the unit disassembled
several times. These parts are available as spare parts.
SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
• The sera flore CO
only be operated after a pressure reducer on a CO
pressure gas bottle. The applied CO
sure should not exceed 1 bar (14.5 psi.). The intake
connector for the CO
unrestricted CO
• Use only a high quality pressure reducer with a fine-
adjustment needle valve, e.g. the sera flore CO
sure reducer, that allows adjusting the bubble num-
ber precisely.
