WARNING
Do not fill the air cylinder to a pressure higher than the
rated pressure marked on the cylinder (2216 psi or
3000 psi depending on the Model ).
Do not fill if the hydrostatic test date stamped on the
cylinder is not within the past 5 years. Remove any
such cylinder from service and have it hydrostatically
tested before refilling.
Do not fill a cylinder that exhibits signs of abuse or
exposure to fire or is known to have been exposed
to temperatures above 300°F continuously for several
hours. Remove and destroy any such cylinder.
Do not fill with oxygen or other gases. Filling with other
than Grade D breathing air, having a maximum dew
point of -65°F (-54°C), will result in serious injury or
death to the user. Air with a dew point higher than
-65°F (-54°C) can freeze during use, blocking the air
supply.
Failure to observe the above precautions can cause a
cylinder to explode during filling, causing serious injury
or death to the operator and bystanders.
Always fill an air cylinder only when it is behind a
heavy-gauge steel enclosure.
CAUTION
If filling in a water bath, do not submerge the pressure
gauge under water since water may damage the
pointer mechanism and cause the gauge to give false
readings.
After the filling, close the cylinder valve tightly, bleed and
disconnect the filling hose. Reattach the pressure reduc-
ing valve and air supply hose assembly to the cylinder
valve, and check for cylinder valve leakage by immers-
ing the end of the air supply hose into water. If a stream
of air bubbles appears, recheck the tightness of the
cylinder valve handwheel. If the leak does not go away,
then the cylinder valve will have to be replaced, and the
unit should not be placed into service.
Check for leaks at the air cylinder valve thread, burst
disc, and the base of the gauge connection by using the
bubble leak tester (NORTH Catalog No. 80991 or
equal). Replace defective parts as necessary. See FIG -
URE 10.
Leak Detection Check
8.
Before placing the EEBA into service, verify that the air
cylinder pressure gauge reads FULL. Reconnect the air
supply hose to the breathing hood assembly.
9.
Place the air cylinder and the cylinder valve assembly
into the carrying bag, and pull the draw string closed;
repack breathing hood with care into storage compart-
ment and secure the Velcro closures. See FIGURE 11.

PERIODIC MAINTENANCE

Each week, and more frequently if possible, the air cylinder
pressure gauge should be checked to assure that the unit is
completely FULL. Any units showing less than FULL should
be removed from service, recharged, and checked for leaks.
