SAFETY GUIDELINES
1. Read and closely follow the safety guidelines provided with
the pump you purchased.
guidelines for fountain safety are listed below:
a. Ensure the pump is disconnected from the power source
before attempting to service or remove any component.
b. Pump should only be used with liquids that are compatible
with the pump component materials.
c. Do not handle pump with wet hands or while standing on
wet or damp surfaces.
d. The National Electric Code, and similar codes in countries
other than USA, require a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter
(GFCI) to be installed in the branch circuit supplying
fountain equipment rated above 15 volts. Franklin Electric
recommends that each pump be used with a GFCI.
2. Do not allow children or infants to play near the fountain due
to the potential for drowning hazard.
PLANNING INSTRUCTIONS
1. The fountain you purchased is typically assembled in the
configuration shown in Figures 1 and 2. This configuration
uses a pump to deliver water from a Lower Basin (usually
buried flush with the ground surface), upwards to the fountain.
As water overflows the fountain top, it is drained back into the
lower basin. Note this document assumes the customer plans
to use this type of fountain.
2. Consider the following potential needs of your fountain to
determine the appropriate location:

a. If you choose a fountain configuration similar to our illustrations
in Figures 1 and 2, make sure you have enough space to dig
a hole for your Lower Basin. You should also confirm there
are no buried utilities (electrical, water, or gas lines) that might
interfere with digging a hole to the depth needed.
b. Make sure the utility needs of your fountain will be available
at the chosen location:
i. An electrical source will be needed to power your pump
(i.e. 115 VAC/60 Hz).
ii. Consider whether you want a programmable controller to
turn your pump on/off throughout the day.
iii. A source of water will be necessary to periodically refill
the lower basin.
fountain is within reach of a garden hose.
c. Finally, give considerable thought to your existing landscape
and the interaction of space.
3. Pump selection: depending on the fountain configuration you
choose, the requirements of your pump may vary widely. If you
are not knowledgeable in pump selection, solicit the help of your
pump distributor. For reference, if you assemble the fountains
shown in Figure 1 or 2, the following performances have been
shown to work well:
a. Papyrus Fountain: a pump that provides 650 gallons/hour
at 5 feet of head.
b. Lotus Bowl: a pump that provides 350 gallons/hour at 1 feet
of head.
4. Level the fountain during installation to obtain uniform flow
around all edges of fountain.
5. Purchase a lower basin with removable grates to provide easy
access for periodic maintenance.
6. A check valve on the pump discharge is a convenient method to
prevent the back-flow of water (i.e. from fountain to Lower Basin)
when pump is turned off (Figure 1 and 2).
7. Both the Papyrus and the Lotus Bowl fountains are designed for
use with ½" flexible PVC tubing. Carefully consider any desire to
change to a different size.
ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS
1. Remove fountain and all contents from shipping carton.
2. Dig hole of appropriate size for the Lower Basin you have
purchased separately.
3. Place Lower Basin in hole, and verify it is level in 2 directions
(i.e. left to right, and front to back).
4. Optional step for the Papyrus fountain to fill base with sand,
which reduces tendency of fountain tip.
a. Access sand-fill port by turning Papyrus upside down.
b. Remove red plastic cap, fill with sand, and re-install red cap.
5. Install Flexible Pipe into central hole of fountain.
a. Papyrus: apply film of petroleum jelly to outside end of
Flexible Pipe, push end of Pipe through central hole of
fountain (Figure 3).
b. Lotus Bowl: Attach rubber grommet to flexible pipe about 1"
from end and squeeze through the bottom of the fountain. A
flat screw driver may help with inserting the grommet until it
is at least ½" beyond the bottom (Figure 4).
6. Place Fountain/Flexible Pipe assembly on top of your Lower Basin.
7. Route Flexible Pipe to pump and make connections to pump.
8. Where appropriate, use supplied Corner Brackets (quantity of
4) and screws (quantity of 8) to secure fountain to Lower Basin.
This is easily accomplished if the
