PROBLEM
Drill bit burns or smokes in material
Quill returns too slowly or with too much
force
Table raises with difficulty
Excessive tearout on underside
Drill bit veers off hole
NOTE: SERVICE AND REPAIRS should be made by qualified repair
technicians at an authorized repair center. Improperly repaired tools could
cause serious shock or injury.
NOTE: REPLACEMENT PARTS. When servicing, use only the
manufacturer's recommended replacement dentical replacement parts
and accessories.

POSSIBLE CAUSE
Wrong speed for material and hole size
Chips are not being evacuated from hole
Dull bit or incorrect clearance
Needs coolant
Feed is too slow
Quill return spring is improperly adjusted
Dust on or in quill assembly
Lack of lubrication
Table lock is tightened
Too much feed pressure
No backing material
Hard grain in wood
Bent drill bit
Too much force
SOLUTION
Refer to speed table
Clean the drill bit
Replace or sharpen bit
Use coolant
Increase speed at feed handles
Adjust tension
Clean and lubricate
Apply a light oil
Loosen table lock handle
Less force on feed handles
Use another piece of scrap material as
backing
Lubricate drill bit
Replace
Use a lower feed speed
