EPA REQUIREMENTS (CONTINUED)
• Technicians repairing small appliances such as household refrigerators, window air
conditioners and water coolers, must recover 80% of the refrigerant when the compressor in
the appliance is not operating.
• Technicians repairing small appliances must recover 90% of the refrigerant when the
compressor in the appliance is operating.
NOTE: These requirements may also be met by evacuating the small appliance

The EPA requires that service technicians certify the acquired recovery equipment to the
appropriate EPA Regional Office, and that it is in compliance with the applicable laws
