Inserting and removing the battery
The time between battery charges is around 14 active hours. This value is obtained for a standard cycle of 5% transmission,
5% active reception and 90% standby time. When the TLK1054 walkie-talkie is 100% receiving, the battery operating time is
approximately 8h30.
Caution:
1. Do not short-circuit the battery terminals or throw the battery into a fire. Do not dispose as houselhold waste.
2. Do not attempt to dismantle or open the battery.
Installing the belt clip
Position the belt clip on top of the sliding bracket on the back of the unit. Slide the belt clip into the bracket until you hear the
locking sound.
Installing an external headset/microphone
Pull down the speaker/microphone rubber cap to uncover the SP/MIC jacks.
Insert the external headset and/or microphone in the SP/MIC jacks.
Note: The device is no longer water-resistant when the SP/MIC jack is used.
ON/OFF and volume control
To turn the walkie-talkie on, turn the ON/OFF/volume knob clockwise.
You will hear the announcement of the active channel number.
To turn the walkie-talkie off, turn the ON/OFF/volume knob anticlockwise until you hear a click.
Volume adjustment
Press and hold the Monitor button to hear the background noise. Next, turn the ON/OFF/volume knob to adjust the volume
to a comfortable level.
Channel selection
Turn the channel selector knob to select the desired channel. A voice announcement indicates
the current channel number. Note that for channel 16, the scan function is active.
Transmission/Reception
For communication, all the walkie-talkies within a group must be set to the same channel.
To transmit, press and hold the PTT button. The LED turns orange during transmission. Speak in a clear and
normal voice at a distance of around 8 cm from the microphone.
Release the PTT button to receive.
Note: Only one user at a time can speak during radio communication. For this reason, it is important not to
transmit when you're receiving a call, and to use the transmit mode wisely so as to leave the frequency clear and
allow other users to use the transmit function.
Transmission consumes a great deal of power, therefore its use should be moderated to extend battery life.
Auxiliary functions
Monitor button
The Monitor button is used to activate or deactivate the Squelch. Monitor feature makes it possible to hear signals that are too
weak to be heard when Squelch mode is activated.
Press and hold the Monitor button to activate this function. The monitor feature is very helpful when you wish to adjust the
volume level or when you need to receive a weak signal, which is usually eliminated by squelch.
Noise reduction (Squelch)
The Squelch function suppresses the noise from the speaker when there is no signal (i.e.: Squelch cuts off the background
noise). This function eliminates noise on the free channels and makes it possible to receive even weak signals.
When the Squelch function is activated, the background noise is filtered out. When it is deactivated, background noise is audible.
Scan function
Use the Scan function to automatically monitor the different radio channels.
Scan mode is activated when you set your channel selector to channel 16. This mode automatically scans channels 1 to 15.
