knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the product by a
person responsible for their safety
Keep your second hand on the auxiliary housing.
Handling the tool with both hands ensures they cannot be cut by the blade.
Position your body on one or the other side of the tool, but not in the alignment of the blade or the cutting
axis.
Hold the tool firmly to prevent any loss of control.
Do not try to remove debris material when the blade is still moving.
The retractable protective cover cannot protect you from the blade on the underside of the work area. Do
not try to remove the material when the cutting blade moves.
Always check the proper closure of the protective guard before each use. Do not operate the tool if guard
does not move freely and does not close properly.
Never hold or tie the guard in open position.
If you accidentally drop the saw, the guard may become damaged. Check that the guard opens and closes
freely and it does not touch the blade or any other part, in all directions.
Check operation and condition of the guard. If the guard is not operating properly, it must be repaired
before any further use of the tool.
The guard may move slowly due to damaged parts, gummy deposits, or debris accumulation. Unplug the
power cord, methodically remove the blade, and clean the guard and any concentration of deposits with oil
and wipe or clean by blowing compressed air.
Always make sure the guard covers the blade before placing the tool on the floor or workbench. An
unprotected blade will cut everything in its path.
Be aware of the time needed for the blade to come to a complete stop after the switch is released (set on
OFF position).
Never hold the piece being cut in your hands or across your legs.
It is important to maintain the work piece to minimize exposure of the body to the blade, the blade sticking
or loss of control.
- Do not assume your knowledge of the tool. Remember that a split second of negligence is sufficient to
cause serious damage and/or injury.
- Do not use the side and back of the blade for cutting.
- The jigsaw must not be used above shoulder height.
22- Kickback and related warnings
Kickback is a sudden reaction to a pinched or snagged moving blade.
Pinching or snagging causes rapid stalling of the cutting accessory which in turn causes the uncontrolled
power tool to be forced in the direction opposite of the accessory's rotation at the point of the binding.
For example, if a blade is snagged or pinched by the work piece, the edge of the blade that is entering into
the pinch point can dig into the surface of the material causing the blade to climb out or kick out. The blade
may either jump towards or away from the operator, depending on direction of the blade's movement at the
point of pinching.
Kickback is the result of power tool misuse and/or incorrect operating procedures or conditions and can be
avoided by taking proper precautions as given below.
a- Maintain a firm grip on the power tool and position your body and arms to allow you to resist
kickback forces. Always use auxiliary handle, if provided, for maximum control over kickback or
torque reaction during start-up. The operator can control torque reactions or kickback forces, if proper
precautions are taken.
b- Never place your hand near the moving accessory. The accessory may kickback over your hand.
c- Do not position your body in the area where the power tool will move if kickback occurs. Kickback
will propel the tool in the direction opposite to the blade's movement at the point of snagging.
d- Use special care when working corners, sharp edges, etc. Avoid bouncing and snagging the
accessory. Corners, sharp edges or bouncing have a tendency to snag the rotating accessory and cause
loss of control or kickback.
