Some dust created by paint spraying, power sanding, sawing, grinding, drilling and
other related activities is known to the state of California to cause cancer, birth defects
and other reproductive harm. A listing of chemicals can be obtained from
www.oehha.ca.gov under Proposition 65.
Some examples of these chemicals are:
• Lead from lead based paints
• Crystalline silica from bricks, cement and other masonry products
• Arsenic and chromium from chemically treated lumber
Your risk from these exposures varies, depending on how often you do this type of
work. To reduce your exposure to these chemicals work in a well ventilated area and
wear appropriate/approved safety equipment such as respirators or dust masks which
are specially designed to filter microscopic particles.
