Installation
1.1 Motors and Speed Reducers
WPS series speed reducer are not shipped with oil so they must be filled before use.
If the unit is to be mounted in a different position than originally intended then the amount of
lubricant in the unit will require adjustment.
1.2 Mounting to Customer Equipment
To mount the speed reducer feet to the equipment use bolts
with at least an ISO grade of 8.8. Torque the bolts to:
1.3 Motor Wiring
To Power Supply
Connection of the electric motor to the power supply should be made by a qualified electrician. The
current rating of the motor will be identified on the motor plate, and the correct sizing of the wire to
meet electrical regulations is essential.
1.4 Foot-Mounted
Foot mounted units can either be free standing, or if required, mounted on a standard base-plate
with a foot mounted motor correctly aligned and connected by a flexible coupling.
a) Clean the shafts and speed reducer breather
b) Secure the speed reducer to a base-plate or to a rigid foundation using bolts to ISO grade 8.8 minimum
c) Ensure the base-plate is not distorted
Note: If the speed reducer is not mounted on a base plate it should be mounted on the same
bedplate as the prime mover.
d) Align Speed Reducer
Note: It is important to insure when aligning the speed reducer on the base-plate that all
machined mounting points are supported over their full area.
If steel packing's are used they should be placed on both sides of the foundation bolts and as
close as possible. During the final assembly insure the unit or base-plate is not distorted. This
will cause strain on the gear case resulting in the possible misalignment of the shafts and
gearing.
e) For units mounted on bedplates, after alignment, select any two diagonally opposite feet, drill,
ream and bolt in position.
f) Install safety guards in accordance with local regulations
g) Check the motor wiring diagram for the correct direction of rotation. This is important when a
load holding device has been added.
h) Fill the speed reducer with oil as detailed on page 7
2. Lubrication and Maintenance
2.1 Lubrication
All models must be filled with oil before use.
2.2 Periodic Inspection
a. Check oil level weekly. If necessary top up with the recommended grade of lubricant.
b. Add two shots of grease monthly to units having grease lubricated bearings.
2.3 Oil Changes
Regular oil changes are essential and the following factors should be used to determine the
frequency at which these are carried out.
