•
Disconnect the operating voltage once more
and reverse the polarity of the connecting
leads supplying the operating voltage.
•
Apply 9-12 V voltage and observe the direction
of rotation.

7.2 Experiment procedure
7.2.1 AC generator
•
Insert the carbon brushes into the sockets
provided in front of the commutator.
•
Insert the horseshoe magnet (which will func-
tion as a stator) into the holding fixture. Take
special care to ensure that the rotor can rotate
freely.
•
Set the voltmeter to DC, set the zero point to
the middle and connect it up.
•
Start turning the crank slowly and observe the
output voltage.
•
Increase the speed of revolution and note the
output voltage.
•
Set the voltmeter to AC and determine the rms
output value.

7.2.2 DC generator
•
Insert the carbon brushes into the sockets
provided behind the commutator.
•
Insert the horseshoe magnet (which will func-
tion as a stator) into the holding fixture. Take
special care to ensure that the rotor can rotate
freely.
•
Set the voltmeter to DC, set the zero point to
the middle and connect it up.
•
Turn the crank clockwise and note the output
voltage and the pointer deflection.
•
Turn the crank anticlockwise and note the
output voltage and the pointer deflection.
