Gigabit/SFP Media Converter

Intended use
The product converts signals between an RJ45 port and an SFP port (or between two SFP ports).
Always observe the safety instructions and all other information included in these operating
instructions.

Safety instructions
The warranty will be void in the event of damage caused by failure to observe
these safety instructions! Liability for any and all consequential damage is
excluded!
We do not accept liability for damage to property or personal injury caused by
improper handling or non-compliance with the safety instructions! The war-
ranty will be void in such cases.
• Unauthorised conversion and/or modification of the product is inadmissible
because of safety and approval reasons (CE). Never dismantle the product.
• The product is only intended for use in dry, indoor locations. No part of the prod-
uct should be allowed to become moist or wet, never take hold of it if your hands
are wet! Danger of a lethal electric shock!
• Do not expose the product to extreme temperatures (<0 °C or >+45 °C), direct
sunlight, vibration or humidity.
• The product is not a toy. Keep devices that operate on the mains voltage out of the
reach of children. Therefore, be especially careful when children are around.
Use the product where it is out of the reach of children.
• Do not pull the power adapter from the mains socket by pulling on the cable.
• If the power adapter is damaged, do not touch it; there is danger to life from
electric shock!
Switch off the mains voltage to the mains socket to which the power adapter is con-
nected (switch off at the corresponding circuit breaker or remove the safety fuse).
You can then unplug the power adapter from the mains socket. Dispose of the
damaged wall plug transformer in an environmentally friendly way, do not use it
any more.
Replace it with a new wall plug transformer with the same specifications.
• The design of the power adapter complies with protection class II. Only use a stan-
dard mains socket as the voltage source (see section „Technical data").
• Do not leave packing materials unattended. They may become dangerous play-
things for children.
• Handle the product with care; it can be damaged by impacts, blows, or accidental
drops, even from a low height.
Connection
Signals can be converted either between an RJ45 port and an SFP port or between both SFP
ports.
Slide the SFP module(s) into the corresponding inserts on the media converter first before
turning it on using the power adapter.
The slide switch on the lateral side can be used
to select the operational mode LFF/LFP.

Maintenance and cleaning
The product does not require any maintenance. You should never take it apart.
Use a clean, dry, soft cloth for cleaning. Do not apply too much pressure on the housing; this
could result in scratch marks.
Dust can easily be removed using a clean long-haired brush and a vacuum cleaner.

• Only use in dry indoor locations. The product must not get damp or wet! There is
a risk of life-threatening electric shock!
• Never use the product immediately after it has been taken from a cold room to a
warm one. The condensation that forms might destroy your unit. This might cause
a lethal electric shock!
Allow the product to reach room temperature, before connecting it to the power
supply and putting it into use. This may take several hours.
• Any maintenance or repair work may only be performed by an authorised repair
shop.
• Check the product for damage before each use!
If you detect any damage, DO NOT connect the product to the mains supply!
A safe operation can no longer be assumed, if:
- the product shows visible signs of damage,
- the product does not function or does not function properly (e.g. a burning smell)
- the product was stored under unfavourable conditions
• When setting up the product, make sure that the cables are neither kinked nor
pinched.
• If the product is not to be used for some time (e.g. during storage), unplug the wall
plug transformer.
• Avoid the following adverse conditions at the installation location and during trans-
portation:
- Damp or excess air humidity
- Extreme cold or heat
- Dust or flammable gases, fumes or solvents
- Strong vibrations
Do not use abrasive cleaning agents, cleaning alcohol or chemical solutions, since
these could damage the housing or even impair operation.
Dispose of an unserviceable product in line with the relevant statutory regulations.
