FIREPLACE FRAMING AND INSTALLATION

Unpacking the Fireplace
After removal of the plastic wrap, remove the screws holding the
corner posts and plywood to the fireplace. Discard the corner
posts and plywood.
The non-combustible board is under the fireplace on the pallet.
Remove any protective film from fireplace and all components
(nailing flanges, nailing headers, etc.).
Framing
Fireplace support framing should be built before the fireplace is set
in place. The fireplace framing may be constructed of 2 x 4 lumber.
The framing headers must rest on the fireplace nailing headers.
Refer to Figure 11 for minimum framing dimensions.
Measure fireplace dimensions and verify framing methods, and
wall covering details before framing construction begins.
Framing dimension A includes a 16-1/2 in. clearance for nailing
headers on firebox. After installing firebox into framing, the
finished wall surface must cover the 16-1/2 in. opening above
the firebox.

4. Bend the nailing flange tabs out at right angles until they are
flush with the face of the fireplace.
For see-through fireplaces only: Bend the tabs on one
side of the fireplace only. Bend the tabs on the top header of
the opposite face at right angles to allow the tabs to clear the
enclosure framing when sliding the fireplace into posisiton.
See Figure 13.
5. Lift the fireplace and set into the frame. Slide the fireplace
back until nailing flanges meet the frame. Secure the fire-
place to the frame with one #8x1 drywall screw each. For
see-thru fireplaces, bend the back side nailing flanges out
and right angles and secure with one #8x1 drywall screw
each.
