Quick Install
Before installing a new hard drive in your px network storage device, check the hard drive compatibility list at
http://support.lenovoemc.com for approved and supported hard drive brands and models.
1. Make sure at least one hard drive is installed in the px device.
2. Use the included network cable to connect the px device to your network router.
3. Use the included power adapter and cord to plug the px device into a surge-protected power source.
4. The device will power on automatically.
5. Use one of the following options to set up the px device on your network:
Web Setup Portal: From a computer on your network, go to http://setup.lenovoemc.com. The Setup
Portal provides easy discovery and configuration for your px device. You can also download and install
optional software components, such as LenovoEMC Storage Manager or Twonky Media Server, or set up a
Personal Cloud (see the Personal Cloud Setup Guide for details).
Device Management Console: You can access the management console directly by entering the device IP
address or model name (for example, px6-300d, px4-300d, or px2-300d) in your computer's web browser.
To use the model name on a Mac, add .local after the name in the browser (for example, px6-300d.local).
Using Your px Series Network Storage Device
Discovering your device using LenovoEMC
LenovoEMC Storage Manager is client software that allows multiple computers to interact with your px network
storage device. Install and run this application on each computer connected to your network to quickly discover
the device and assign drive letters to the device shares for browsing.
NOTE: There are separate versions of LenovoEMC Storage Manager available for Windows
computers. Check http://support.lenovoemc.com for operating system platform compatibility.
Disconnecting the px device
You can keep the px device powered on for constant use on your network. If you need to disconnect it from
your network, power down using either the power button or the shut down option in the management console.
CAUTION: To prevent data loss, do not disconnect this device or any connected storage devices during data
transfer.
Backing up your px network storage
Periodic system backups and more frequent data backups are recommended to ensure that your critical data is
always protected. For complete setup instructions and more information on backup strategies, consult the help
files available from the management console.

The px device provides complete instructions in its online help. In addition, a complete user's manual, additional
configuration instructions, troubleshooting information, and the latest software downloads for your device are
available from the LenovoEMC web site at http://support.lenovoemc.com.
Safety Information
Observe the following guidelines when performing any work on your px network storage device:
1. Follow all instructions marked on the device and in the documentation.
2. Use only the power supply provided with the px device.
3. Unplug the px device before cleaning. Do not use liquid or aerosol cleaners. Use a damp cloth for
cleaning.
4. Do not use the px device near water. Do not spill liquid on or into the px device.
5. Do not place the px device on an unstable surface.
6. Do not place the px device near or on a radiator or heat register.
7. Make sure the px device has ample ventilation (at least 6" or 127 mm) in front and behind the device.
