BEFORE FIRST USE
Pull up on the Basket Handle until it locks horizontally (A). Press the Lid Release and lift
the Basket out of the unit. Remove any instructions, stickers, etc. and lift out the Non-
Stick Cooking Pot (B). Wash the Pot and Basket in warm water and liquid detergent,
rinse, and dry thoroughly. Replace the Cooking Pot in the unit. Wipe the exterior of the
unit including the Lid with a damp sponge or cloth. NEVER IMMERSE THE UNIT IN
WATER. CAUTION:
A
Do not use the
Fryer under
cabinets or
curtains. Never
leave it unattended
during use. During
first use, you may
detect a slight odor.
This is normal.
How To Use
1. For models with a detachable cord, be sure the breakaway/detachable cord is
properly attached to the unit and the Cooking Pot is properly seated with the
MAX/MIN MARKS to the rear of the unit or the Lid will not lock down. Fill the Cooking
Pot with approximately 2 liters of vegetable cooking oil. Do not use olive, peanut,
sunflower, or flavored oils. (See Tips about cooking oils.) Do not go below the MIN
MARK or exceed the MAX FILL MARK inside the Pot.
2. Sit the empty Basket into the Unit, close the Lid. Press the Handle Release to fold the
Basket handle down and lower it into the oil. CAUTION: Always CLOSE THE LID
before lowering the Basket. Plug in the unit and press the On/Off button. The Power
Light will come on. Slide the Temperature Control Lever to the appropriate
temperature for your food. The Heating Light will
come on indicating the unit is preheating.
Preheating the empty Basket will help prevent food
from sticking to it. When the unit reaches its
cooking temperature, the light will go out in about
20-25 minutes.
3. Pull up on the Basket Handle to lock in place (see
A) and let it drain a few seconds. Lift the Lid and fill
the Basket with the appropriate amount of food (C).
DO NOT OVERFILL THE BASKET. Use the charts and
recipes in this book as your guide to determine
food quantities, temperature settings, and time,
along with the graphics printed on the front of the
unit for various foods.
4. For models with Timers, turn the Timer Dial to the
appropriate timing up to 30 minutes. The Timer will
count down the minutes and there will be an
audible signal when time is up, however, the unit will NOT shut off automatically.
When cooking is done, you MUST press the On/Off Button to shut the unit off. The
Power Light will go out.

5. With the LID STILL CLOSED, press the Handle Release button and SLOWLY fold back
the Handle to lower the Basket into the hot oil, then lock the Handle down into the
unit. The Heating Light will cycle on and off indicating that the unit is maintaining the
cooking temperature.
6. Although this appliance has a ThermaGuard™ Base so you won't burn your hand if
accidentally touched, AVOID TOUCHING the exterior of the unit during cooking. Keep
the Lid closed while frying; you may peek into the Viewing Window to check progress
without opening the Lid. It is normal for steam to appear in the Window but it will
clear during cooking if you keep the Window clean after each use.
7. Avoid the Vent and the seam around the Lid during cooking as there may be some
escaping steam.
8. When cooking is done, lift up on the Basket Handle (see A) so that it locks in place
horizontally. Let the food drain 10-15 seconds, then push the Lid Release button and
the Lid will pop open. Carefully lift the Basket out (be sure not to press the Handle
Release button) and turn the food out onto a plate with paper toweling to drain.
Replace the Basket in the unit, close the Lid, and lower the Basket back into the oil to
reheat. Repeat as necessary to cook additional food. When finished, press the On/Off
button and the Power Light will go out.
Care and Cleaning
IMPORTANT: Always UNPLUG the unit and allow it to COOL COMPLETELY before cleaning!
NOTE: You do not have to change the oil after each use. Oil can be re-used until it gets
dark or there is visible debris (such as batter or bits of food) in it.
1. Be sure oil is completely cool before removing the Cooking Pot by lifting up and out
(see B). Pour the oil off into large cans for re-use or disposal (such as large coffee
cans with lids). For longer life, store oil for reuse in the refrigerator.
2. Open the Lid and pull straight up to remove it. Remove the Drip Tray which catches oil
and condensation from the Lid (see Call Out illustration). The Lid, Drip Tray, Cooking
Pot, and Basket can be completely immersed and soaked in soapy water then
washed by hand. The Cooking Pot is also dishwasher-safe — however, it must be
placed vertically in the dishwasher to avoid damaging the non-stick finish. Slip the
Drip Tray back in place before replacing the Lid. To reattach the Lid, tilt it slightly
forward and slip the Tabs of the Lid into the Notches of the unit. Lower the Lid down.
3. If washing by hand, use a sponge or nylon pad with liquid detergent. Do not use any
abrasive cleaners, coarse cleansers, or metal pads as they may damage the non-
stick coated surface. Be careful not to bang the Pot as any dents can affect future
performance. After washing, dry the Cooking Pot, Basket & Handle, and Lid
completely before re-use. Over time and repeated use, there may be some fat buildup
in the Pot and on the Basket. This is normal.
4. DO NOT IMMERSE THE UNIT. Wipe it with a damp
sponge or cloth and dish detergent. Never spray or
apply cleaners directly onto the Lid or Cooking Pot.
Dry thoroughly with a soft cloth.
Changing the Charcoal & Mesh Filters
These filters are intended to help cut down on frying
odors and should always be in place when operating
the fryer. Over time, they will become less effective.
To change the filters, remove the Vent Lid and take
out the 2 filters. (D) Replace with new ones by placing
the white mesh filter in first, then the charcoal filter
