5.2.1 CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE

OF THE ELECTRODES
Visually inspect the measuring electrodes (approx.
once a month) and clean them if necessary.
To clean the electrodes of lime deposits, submer-
ge only the tip of the electrodes (glass membra-
ne) in cleaning solution (HCI 3%) for 2 minutes. It
is essential to place the electrodes in preserva-
tion solution KCI 3M for 5 minutes after they are
cleaned.
Cleaning and maintenance of the sloped seat PVC
filter, once a week with water jet.

5.2.2 STORAGE

Make sure that during storage the tip of the pH and
RedOx electrodes (moistened area) have preser-
vation solution KCI 3M with which they are sup-
plied. If this solution evaporates or accidentally
spills, pour a little trimolar KCI solution into the
hood or protective casing. The hood or protective
casing must always be moistened with this solu-
tion.
Storage conditions must be dry and between a
temperature of 10ºC and 30ºC. Tempe-ratures of -
15º could break the electrodes or denature the
electrolyte.
: The pH and RedOx electrodes cannot
be stored for an indefinite period of
time. It is recommended not to store
them for more than three months.
: Do not leave the electrodes to soak in
distilled water, as this can lead to pre-
mature and irreversible ageing.
: Do not handle the tip of the electrodes
where the wire is connected, with wet
hands, as this could cause a short cir-
cuit and quickly deteriorate the electro-
de, and therefore, the life span of the
electrodes.

5.2.3 FREQUENCY OF GAUGING

It is recommended to periodically check (once a
month) the pH values and Cl or Br ppm, using the
analysis kit or photometer, and compare them with
those displayed in the unit. If there are great diffe-
rences, the analysis should be repeated to check
these differences. If they really do exist, the pH
and RedOx potential electrodes should be gauged.
Differences between the analytical results and the
values displayed could be due to the physical-che-
mical conditions to which the pool water has been
subject, such as manual hyperchlorination treat-
ments; the manual addition of algaecides; the
manual addition of flocculants, etc. Another reason
for these differences could be the physical-chemi-
cal quality of the swimming pool water.

5.2.4 LIFE SPAN

pH and RedOx electrodes are subject to natural
ageing, even when they are handled following the
instructions. Their life span is between 6 months
and a maximum of two years.
(pH and RedOx electrodes are perishable material
and therefore are not covered by a guarantee).

5.3 ADDITION OF CHEMICAL PRODUCTS

When operations are performed, such as adding
chemical products manually or cleaning the filters,
it is recommended to isolate the unit during the
process, by closing the inlet and outlet valves of
the unit, in order to prevent any accidents or
unwanted products from entering the analysis
chamber. By doing this, the electrodes will not be
contaminated nor altered.
