Connecting to a PC Sound
Card
You can connect your ClearOne to a
PC sound card or any four-wire system
that supports full duplex operation.
This lets you use your ClearOne with
your computer, videoconferencing
equipment, or dedicated voice
network.
A computer sound card connector
cable is included with your ClearOne
shipment. At one end of the cable
there is a single mini stereo plug, and
at the other end there are two mini
stereo plugs.
To connect your ClearOne to a
computer sound card:
1. Plug the single black plug of the
computer sound card connector cable
into the PC In/Out jack on your
ClearOne base unit. See Figure 2.
2. Connect the other end of the
computer sound card connector cable
with two plugs by doing the following:
• Connect the red plug into the audio
LINE OUT jack of your computer.
See Figure 5.

• Connect the black plug into the audio
LINE IN jack of your computer. See
Figure 5.
3. Plug the base connector cable from
the power supply into the RJ45 (8 pin)
jack on the ClearOne base unit.
4. Plug the power cord into a standard
120-volt electrical outlet. If the outlet is
controlled by a wall switch, turn it on.
The ClearOne plays a sequence of self-
test tones.
5. In order to activate the PC sound
card, the ClearOne must be turned on
by pressing the Shift button while at the
same time pressing the On button.

After you set up the connection,
change the sound control settings on
your PC.
To mute external signals with
Microsoft Volume Control—
Playback:
1. On the Start menu, follow one of
the paths below, depending on your
operating system:
(Windows 98)
Programs\Accessories\Entertainment\
Volume Control
(Windows 95)
Programs\Accessories\Multimedia\
Volume Control
2. Select "MUTE" for Line-In Balance.
To select external signals with
Microsoft Volume Control—
Recording:
1. From Volume Control Menu, select
Options.
2. Choose Properties from the
Options.
3. Select "Recording" at "adjust volume
for" option.
4. Select "Line-In" at "Show the follow-
ing volume controls:" option.
5. Press OK.
6. Make sure the "Line-In Balance" has
been selected.
To use Microsoft NetMeeting:
1. Open Microsoft NetMeeting.
2. Choose Options from the Tools
Menu.
3. Select "Audio" from Options.
4. De-Select or Un-Check "Enable
Auto-Gain Control."
To use the PC sound card
connection:
1. Start with your ClearOne off.
2. Hold down the SHIFT key and press
the ON/OFF
button.
Your ClearOne uses the PC connection
until you press ON/OFF again.
