Electrical System for Towing Hitch
Connecting the tail lights
9. Lead the connector assembly of the blue/brown line to the right-hand tail light (Fig. 1/5).
10. Unplug the plug of the right-hand tail light and connect it to its counterpart of the cable
harness. Plug the residual plug back into the tail light.
11. Lead the connector assembly of the blue/green line to the left-hand tail light (Fig. 1/6).
12. Unplug the plug of the left-hand tail light and connect it to its counterpart of the cable harness.
Plug the residual plug back into the tail light.
Note
In the Touring model the trailer cable harness has to be laid from the spare wheel trough
along the vehicle harness to the left-hand tail light.
Special installation information

All models as of model year 09/97
Lay the green/white cable from the 15-pin plug along the vehicle harness (on the right-
-
hand vehicle side) to the kick space on the front-seat passenger side.
Unplug the 54-pin plug from the light module (Fig. 1/1) near the A-pillar by opening the
-
white plug locking device.
Remove the blue contact support and let the contact of the green/white cable lock into
-
place in the free section number 35. Refit the blue contact support.
Plug the 54-pin plug back in and close the white plug locking device.

Touring model up to model year 09/97
Connect the blue cable of the trailer cable harness to the vehicle harness (under the
-
longitudinal crossbeam on the right side of the luggage trunk) using the 1-pin plug.
The green/white cable of the trailer cable harness can be omitted. Insulate the cable ends
-
and cut them off, if necessary.

Sedan model up to model year 09/97
The connecting cable is preinstalled in section 2 in the 8-pin plug on the right-hand tail
-
light.
The green/white cable of the trailer cable harness can be omitted. Insulate the cable ends
-
and cut them off, if necessary.
Connecting the fuse
13. Lay the single red cable from the 15-pin plug to the fuse box.
14. Let the quick-connect receptacle of this cable and of the supplied single red cable lock into
place in the fuse holder (Fig. 1/2) and insert the yellow clip.
15. Screw the single red cable onto the positive battery terminal. Insert the fuse and fit the cover.
Note
Ensure sufficient strain relief and correct installation of the fuse holder.
