INTRODUCTION

Your Vicair

Liberty Back System is designed to be used as described in this manual.

Please read the whole manual before use.

The system consists of the following parts:

Back strap

The back strap is fitted over the wheelchair side posts and is tensioned with Velcro

straps. The back strap replaces the original back support, and allows the cushion to

be fitted over it. The back strap is made in different sizes to suit the dimensions of the

wheelchair and the cushion.

Inner cushion

The inner cushion is made of a polyvinyl bag, filled with a specific number of

triangular, air filled SmartCells™ and a small amount of lubricant. The cushion has two

compartments, with a valve fitted in the right rear corner.

Outer cover

The outer cover is made of nylon and Comfair, a breathable fabric which is two-way

stretchable. A foam insert is fitted in the back. The large panel on the rear side allows

fitting the cushion over the back strap.

ASSEMBLY

Vicair recommends assembly, installation and adjustment of the Liberty Back System

under the direct supervision of your therapist or dealer.

Checking the size

Together with your therapist or dealer, make sure the cushion fits the dimensions

of your body and of your wheelchair. The cushion should match the width of the

wheelchair seat, or be a little smaller.

Fitting the back strap

• Remove the original back support from the wheelchair.

• Open the two small Velcro straps at the bottom corners.

• Slide the side pieces over the backposts of the wheelchair.

• Fasten the two Velcro straps at the bottom corners (fig. A).

• Insert the clamps through the holes in the top corners. Use the small clamps for

backposts size 22-25 mm. Use the larger clamps for backposts size 25-28 mm.

• Close the clamps until they fit snugly over the backposts (fig. B).

• Tension the wide Velcro back straps. For added security, the Velcro straps can be

threaded through the buckles, so that they are securely locked in position.
