The automatic water treatment kit makes it possible to monitor and control fundamental
parameters without any intervention by the user.
A good chemical equilibrium is to be kept so as to prevent minipool water from becoming
corrosive or to avoid scale.
Basic tests concern the level of pH and active sterilizing agent (chlorine). Additional tests,
that are anyway recommended to better control hygienization conditions, concern total
alkalinity, hardness (calcium), salinity and temperature.
pH (hydrogen potential) refers to the the acidity or alkalinity value of a substance, in this
case water: the ideal pH value range for minipool water is between 7.2 and 7.6, that is
slightly alkaline.
The activity of the disinfectant in water (chlorine) and related concentration level is
measured through the ORP (Oxidation Reduction Potential). Such value (expressed in
millivolt - mV) makes it possible to find the proper ratio between pH and free chlorine, in
order to best manage water quality.
ppm (parts per million) is another unit of measure of free chlorine, e.g. with test strips. A
correct ppm value of free chlorine, that is active chlorine, is usually between 1 and 3 ppm
(see table at page 34).
The total alkalinity measures water hardness; a low value may cause a quick change in
pH when hygienizing chemical substances are added. In case of high value, water tends
to become murky when chemical substances are added; furthermore pH level will be
hard to adjust.
NOTE: The alkalinity is always to be checked before adjusting or testing pH. Refer to the
tables on page 34 for all parameters.
The pH value is regulated by introducing small doses of dilute acid solution; disinfection
is guaranteed by the constant presence of an optimum amount of active chlorine.
Before starting the system, it is recommended to always carry out a hyperchlorination
process; this process is achieved by adding an amount of active chlorine directly into the
water (for dosage, refer to instructions on the specific product supplied).
After carrying out the above, the system automatically generates and maintains the
chlorine (ORP) level and the pH level at the required level.
TEST TRIPS
The strips for quick test are felt pads to immerse into minipool water and, at the end of the
reaction, to compare with a chromaticity diagram.
Note that, although the test strips give generic information about minipool water
conditions, they aren't reliable enough to be used without additional testing and
monitoring methods. They are therefore to be used for overall water testing and to adjust
conditions accordingly.
Follow the instructions on the package supplied for proper use.
