MDG 1
Safety Precautions and
Working Techniques
Special safety precau -
tions must be observed
when working with ana -
lyzers because they are
powered by electricity.
It is important you read
and understand the
instruction manual before
first use and keep the
manual in a safe place for
future reference. Non-
observance of the
instruction manual may
result in serious or even
fatal injury. Always read
and observe the instruc -
tions in the manual of the
power tool to be tested or
the instructions supplied
with the battery and bat -
tery analyzer.
During operation, follow the safety
instructions in the STIHL diagnostic
software.
Observe all applicable local safety
regulations, standards and ordinances.
Minors should never be allowed to use
an engine analyzer.
The user is responsible for avoiding
injury to third parties or damage to their
property.
Do not lend or rent your engine analyzer
without the instruction manual. Be sure
that anyone using it understands the
information contained in this manual.
Persons with pacemakers only: An
electromagnetic field of a very low
intensity is produced in combination with
the power tool being tested. This field
may interfere with some pacemakers.
STIHL recommends that persons with
pacemakers consult their physician and
the pacemaker manufacturer to reduce
any health risk.
The STIHL MDG 1 engine analyzer can
be used to test ignition modules and
control units and associated electrical
components.
Use the engine analyzer only for testing
STIHL power tools made in 2000 and
later.
The engine analyzer must not be used
for any other purpose because of the
increased risk of accidents and damage
to the analyzer.
Never attempt to modify your engine
analyzer in any way since this may
increase the risk of personal injury.
STIHL excludes all liability for personal
injury and damage to property caused
while using unauthorized power supply
units, adapters, cables, etc.
Depending on the test involved, the
engine of the power tool under test must
be started/switched on. Before starting
the test, always take precautions to
eliminate the risk of accidents and injury
from contact with the power tool's
attachment.
On chainsaws and pole pruners:
Do not perform tests on
the running engine with
the standard saw chain.
