VL3969 – NiMH & NiCd BATTERY CHARGER WITH TIMER CONTROL
1. Introduction
Thank you for buying the VL3969! Please read the manual thoroughly before bringing this device into service.
If the device was damaged in transit, don't install or use it and contact your dealer.
Your VL3969 can charge 2 or 4 AAA or AA or 1 or 2 E-block 9V NiCd or NiMH batteries.
2. Safety Warnings
• Do not expose this device to rain or moisture and only use it indoors.
• Only insert rechargeable NiCd or Ni-MH batteries. Any attempt to recharge other battery types or non-
rechargeable batteries may result in exploding batteries, injury and a damaged device.
• Recharge only one type of battery (NiCd or NiMH) at a time, as the battery type is set for the whole device.
• Each time the charger is plugged onto the mains, the charging cycle starts from the beginning. Always make sure
the batteries are charged in 1 cycle. Do not interrupt and restart cycles to avoid overcharging.
• Disconnect the charger from the mains and remove the batteries when it is not being used.
• Do not try to open or repair the charger when it is damaged. Return the charger to your supplier for repair.
• Keep the device away from children and unauthorised users.
3. Operating Instructions
1. Set the battery type switch according to the type of battery you are going to charge (NiCd or NiMH).
2. Install 2 or 4 AA or AAA or 1 or 2 E-block batteries in the charger. Do not mix different types, sizes or capacities.
3. Plug the charger's AC plug into a power outlet.
4. For AA and AAA batteries: above each battery couple, the charging LED should be red. After the programmed
charging time (8h for NiMH, 3h for NiCd), the LED will turn green to show the charger is trickle charging. For lower
capacity batteries, the charging time is shorter. Check the table below for the correct charging time.
5. For E-blocks: when 1 or 2 E-blocks are being charged, the LED in between will be red. There is no programmed
charging time for E-block batteries. Check the table below to see how long 9V E-blocks should be charged.
6. If one of the LEDs does not light up while batteries are installed, unplug the charger immediately. Remove the
batteries, clean the contact points on batteries and charger and put them back. Plug the charger in again. If the
charging indicator still does not light, either the charger is not working properly or the batteries are defective.
7. Unplug the charger from the power outlet and remove the batteries when charging is complete.
