Mounting the cHSpteLe
Attaching to Other Modules (CHSPT2 MICRO/MAX/ULTRA,
CHSPCABLE or Another CHSPTELE)
The CHSPTELE is designed to be attached to other CHSP modules
for indoor installations including the CHSPTELE, CHSPT2MICRO,
CHSPT2MAX, and CHSPT2ULTRA using the quick-connect feature.
Figure 4 shows how to connect with other modules by sliding it
through the two slots.
Stand-Alone Mounting
Alternatively, the device can be separately mounted on any
convenient indoor surface. To install you need:
Two self-tapping screws — #8 x 3/4-inch (1.9 cm)
•
(surface mount only — supplied with purchase).
Slot and Phillips screwdriver.
•
Additional grounding and telephone wire may be required.
•
Additional grounding and telephone wire may be required. Locate
where the incoming telephone cable(s) enters your home. Mount
the CHSPTELE at this location using the flanges and the two screws
provided. (See Figure 1.)
Wiring the CHSPTELE (Figures 1 – 8)
Note: If modules are joined to a CHSPT2MICRO/CHSPT2MAX/
CHSPT2ULTRA ACmodule, auxiliary grounding is unnecessary,
proceed to Step 4.

Telephone Surge Protection
1. Attach the auxiliary ground terminal strip provided to the rear of
the unit by removing the central Phillips screw as shown in Figure
5. Note: When joining any number of CHSPTELE or CHSPCABLE
modules together, only one module is required to be connected to
ground via an auxiliary ground terminal, as the rest are automati-
cally grounded when joined via the spring terminals. The auxiliary
ground terminal strip should be attached to the "end" module
closest to the grounding point.
2. Attach ground wire to the ground terminal and secure with screw.
Ground wiring should be as short as possible — less than 12
inches (30 cm) for best performance.
3. Connect the other end of ground wire to the loadcenter/breaker
panel ground as shown in Figure 6 (a longer ground wire than
provided may be required). If a loadcenter connection is not pos-
sible, attach the ground wire to the nearest grounding point used
to ground the ac power lines.
4. Reroute the telephone service wire inside the home to the
CHSPTELE. Additional wire may be required.
5. Remove the cover to access the telephone connection terminals.
(See Figure 2.)
6. The incoming telephone wire is typically a UTP or CAT5 wire
made up of two to four multicolored pairs of insulated wires. Each
telephone line or phone number requires one multicolored pair of
wires. Remove approximately 2 inches (5 cm) of the outer jacket
of the telephone wire and determine the number and color of the
pairs of wires inside.
