These instructions are intended for use with CE certified COSMO masks in compliance with the European Standard EN 136:1998.
The full-face masks of category 2 are intended for general use, those of category 3 for special use.
The COSMO masks must only be used in accordance with the instructions given here. Incorrect use might result in danger to life or limb.
PROTECTION AND USAGE
COSMO full-face masks are manufactured in strict compliance with European standard EN 136:1998. The protection category and the type of application of these masks depend
upon the respiratory equipment that is used with them.
COSMO masks with a threaded Rd40 x 1/7" connector can be used with an approved filter cartridge which is in compliance with European standards EN141, 143, 371, 372 or
14387.
COSMO masks might also be connected to other SPERIAN respiratory protection equipment allowing the use of an EN 136:1998 full face mask in compliance with the
specifications listed in the user instructions for each of these devices.
LIMITATIONS OF USE
•
The COSMO mask should never be used on its own. It must be used with a respiratory protection equipment that meets the respective CE standards.
•
When used with a filter or a filtering device, the mask must, in compliance with the current national laws, not be used in an atmosphere deficient in oxygen.
•
When used with devices providing an independent source of air, the air released by these devices must be of a breathable quality in compliance with EN 12021.
•
Limitations of use of the entire respiratory protective equipment depend on the actual device attached. Please consult the user manual delivered with this equipment for
details.
•
Please consult the supplier, if you have any doubt as to whether the respirator is suitable for the work at hand.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
Unpacking instructions.
•
Carefully remove the mask from the packaging.
•
Check that the equipment is complete and free of damage. Immediately contact your supplier in case of deterioration or missing items. The mask must not be used if it is
damaged or incomplete.
Storage
•
Do not store in temperatures below -20° C or above +50° C or in an atmosphere with a relative humidity above 90%.
•
Store the mask in its original packaging or in a sealed container so that it is protected from sun and dust.
Pre-use checks.
•
Read the user instructions for the device attached to the mask.
•
Make sure that the mask is not damaged.
Donning the face mask (compare figures at the beginning of instructions).
1.
Pull neck strap over head, with visor of mask facing downwards (fig. 1).
2.
Pull bottom of mask under chin, and harness over head. (fig. 2)
3.
Position the centre of head harness on the back of your head and progressively tighten the harness starting with the upper and then with the lower straps. Do not
overtighten (fig. 3 to 5).
4.
Place palm of hand over mask connector, breathe in and hold breath. The mask should collapse onto face and remain so as long as breath is held. This helps to make
sure that an effective seal is achieved. If the mask moves away from your face whilst breath is held, readjust head harness straps and repeat air tightness test (fig. 6).
•
DO NOT USE the mask if an effective face seal cannot be achieved. Refer to Maintenance Instructions.
•
Check that there is no hair between the mask and your face. The air tightness of the mask might also be compromised by whiskers, beard or spectacles
•
Always make sure that the respiratory protection equipment attached to the mask is suited for the intended use.
•
In normal use, breathe slowly and regularly.
•
Immediately leave the contaminated area if the mask or the attached respiratory equipment should fail.
•
Do not remove the mask before leaving the contaminated area.
•
When removing the mask, take all necessary precautions to avoid inhaling the dust or contaminant retained on the external surface of the mask.
Removing the face mask.
•
Push forward head harness buckle lugs with both thumbs to loosen and release head harness.
•
Gently pull forward to ease mask up and over head.
Cleaning instructions.
•
Remove the respiratory protection device from the mask connector.
•
Wash the mask with lukewarm soap water or in an ultrasound tub with EPI-US in 3% watery solution (consult maintenance instructions for details). Do not use organic
solvents or abrasive products for cleaning the mask.
•
Rinse the mask thoroughly under clean running water.
•
Dry the mask with a clean lint-free cloth and hang up neck strap in a well-ventilated area away from sunlight.
•
When dry, polish visor with a soft cotton cloth and ALTUSIL. 1779061.
MAINTENANCE
Perform a monthly inspection of the mask to detect deteriorations, torn straps and faceblanks, split seals and valves. Do not use the mask until worn or damaged parts have been
replaced.
