Installing the electrical kit
1. Disconnect the battery.
2. If necessary, remove the following covers and panels:
•
In the luggage compartment
Luggage compartment bottom covering
-
Rear end plate covering
-
Covering of the left side of the luggage trunk
-

From the rear end plate
Covering for the cable leadthrough on the left-hand side

3. Pull the cable end for the inside of the vehicle from the outside through the cable leadthrough.
Lay the other end to the socket holder plate (Fig. 1/5).
4. Insert the rubber grommet into the cable leadthrough (Fig. 1/3).

5. Press the contact insert into the socket housing and push the rubber grommet towards the
socket. Make sure that the contact insert locks into place!
6. Screw the socket onto the holding plate (Fig. 1/5) using the supplied screws.
7. Secure the cable harness using cable ties.
Connecting the trailer control module
8. Slide the trailer control module (Fig. 1/2) into the strap on the back of the SAM control unit
(Fig. 1/1) and fix it in place using a self-tapping Torx screw M6x12 (not included in the scope
of supply).
9. Connect the brown wires with the eyelets to the vehicle's ground point (Fig. 1/4) at the SAM
control unit.
10. Vehicles up to 2004: Plug the 14- and 16-pin plug into the trailer control module.
Vehicles as of 2005: Plug the 2 x 4-, 6- and the 8-pin plugs into the trailer control module
(Fig. 1/2).
11. Plug the violet 5-pin plug into the violet port on the vehicle's SAM control unit (Fig. 1/1).
12. Plug the turquoise fuse holder (7-pin electrical set) or the turquoise and black fuse holder
(13-pin electrical set) into port 17 and 18 of the vehicle's fuse carrier in accordance with the
colour code.
13. Insert the 20A fuse into the turquoise fuse holder and the 20A fuse into the black fuse holder.
Note
Do not use fuse 18 in the black holder unless a trailer is used as otherwise an external
consumer may discharge the battery.
