troubleshooting
This chapter summarises the most common problems you could encounter with the appliance. If
you are unable to solve the problem with the information below, contact the Consumer Care
Centre in your country.
Problem
Some smoke
comes out of the
appliance after it
has been
switched on for
the irst time.
Dirt particles
come out of the
soleplate of the
new iron.
Droplets of
water escape
from the
soleplate.
The appliance
does not
produce any
steam.
No steam comes
out of the
soleplate.
The soleplate is
dirty.
Cause
This is normal. Some parts of the
appliance have been greased lightly in
the factory.
This is normal with a new iron.
The temperature dial has been set to
a temperature that is too low for
steam ironing.
The appliance is not switched on.
The steam tank has been placed on an
unstable and/or uneven surface.
When you start steam ironing, the
hose is cold. Steam condenses in the
hose, causing droplets of water to
escape from the soleplate.
The appliance is not switched on.
The steam tank is not hot enough to
produce steam.
You are not pressing the steam trigger.
There is not enough water in the
steam tank.
Superheated (i.e. high-quality) steam is
hardly visible, especially when the
temperature dial is set to maximum
position and even less so when the
ambient temperature is relatively high.
Impurities or chemicals present in the
water have deposited on the soleplate.
Solution
This phenomenon ceases after a
short while.
These particles are harmless
and stop coming out of the
soleplate after you have used the
iron a few times.
Set an ironing temperature that is
suitable for steam ironing
(temperature settings 2 to MAX).
Set the on/off switch to 'I'.
Put the steam tank on a stable and
even surface.
This is normal. Hold the iron over
an old cloth and press the steam
trigger. The cloth absorbs the drops.
After a few seconds, the steam
production becomes normal.
Set the on/off switch to 'I'
Wait 6 minutes for the steam tank
to heat up.
Press the steam trigger and keep it
pressed while you steam iron.
Fill the steam tank. See chapter
'Preparing for use - Filling the Steam
tank'.
To check if the iron really produces
steam, hold a (cold) mirror in front
of the soleplate vents.
Clean the soleplate with a damp
cloth.
