5. Testing prior to initial
commissioning
Prior to initial commissioning, the device and the
supporting structure must be inspected by a suitably
qualified technician. This testing consists primarily of a
visual examination and a functional check. It is intended
to ensure that the equipment is in a safe condition, and
that any faults or damage are found and rectified. In
particular, the setting of the running gear width must be
checked. The side plates must be parallel to each other
and all wheels must lie on the beam flange. Servicing
fitters working for the manufacturer or supplier may,
for instance, be considered a qualified person.
The purchaser can, however, give the inspection task
to suitably trained technicians of his own.
Caution: It is not permissible under any circumstances
to install the running gear on beams that exceed the
maximum width.

6. Testing prior to starting work

Before any work begins, the device, including the
means of support, equipment and structure, must first
be examined for any obvious faults and defects such as
distortions, cracks, wear and corrosion pits. In addition,
correct suspension of the device and of the load, must
also be checked. Selection and dimensioning of the
appropriate support structure is the duty of the
operating company. In particular, the correct assembly
of the cross bar must be checked.

7. Testing / Servicing

Testing and inspection is to be carried out at least once
a year, or more frequently under difficult conditions of
use, by a suitably qualified technician. The test consists
primarily of visual and functional checks; the condition
of components in terms of damage, wear, corrosion or
other changes are to be assessed, and the complete-
ness and effective operation of safety equipment must
be established.
Repairs may be carried out only by the PFEIFER test
service or other specialist workshops. Only genuine
PFEIFER replacement parts may be used.
The operating company is responsible for initiating
inspections and tests.
