MAINTENANCE
WARNING: Always unplug or disconnect all appliances in the
pond from the electrical supply before immersing your hands
in the water while the equipment is being installed, repaired,
maintained or handled. Never yank the cord and never lift the
appliance by its cable.
The wire and tube free removable lid provide easy trouble free
maintenance. Simply pull off the top of the SkimAway filter for
access to the filter media, debris basket and pump. The debris
basket and filter media can easily be removed and rinsed as
required, to remove any dirt and debris.
PUMP MAINTENANCE
Disconnect the filter from the electrical supply
To lift out the pump, disconnect the tubing from the pump's
outlet. To clean the pump, remove the front strainer cage, twist
and pull out the impeller, use a small brush or stream of water to
remove any debris. (Fig 11, 12, 13 & 14).
IMPELLER MAINTENANCE
IMPORTANT: The motor units incorporate a stainless
steel impeller shaft. This shaft will provide reliable, lasting
performance. Thoroughly clean all parts to remove accumulated
slime, dirt or debris.
DO NOT USE DETERGENTS OR OTHER CHEMICAL CLEANERS.
CAUTION: If the pump fails to operate check the following:
NOTE: Always disconnect from electrical outlet before handling
the pump.
A. Check the circuit breaker and try another electrical outlet to
ensure the pump is getting electrical power.
B. Check the pump discharge and tubing for kinks or obstructions.
Algae buildup can be flushed out with a garden hose.
C. Check the strainer cage to ensure it is not clogged with debris.
D. Remove the pump inlet to access the impeller area. Turn the
impeller to ensure it is not broken or jammed. You may need
to remove and clean the impeller. If the impeller becomes
worn or broken it will need to be replaced. It is advisable to
replace the impeller once a year for maximum performance.
The impeller is a wear and tear part and is not covered by the
warranty. Replacement impeller assembly kits are available
(PT256). Monthly maintenance will increase your pump's life.

WINTERIZING/STORING AT THE END OF THE POND SEASON
In cold winter climates, unplug and remove your SkimAway Filter
at the end of the pond season.
• Unplug the unit and remove it from the pond.
• Drain the water from the unit. Drain the water from the flow
gate, if necessary.
• Remove and rinse off all filter media and store indoors. Clean
the media baskets. Clean the pump as per manufacturer's
instructions. Ensure that the tubing is free of water and debris.
In non-freezing winter climates, should you choose to leave the
SkimAway Filter in place over the winter then it should be left
running. This will prevent possible freezing and cracking of the
enclosure.
