230 Volt - Three phase motors wired to main volt-
age of 3 x 230 Volt require a DELTA connection.
400 Volt -Three phase motors wired to main volt-
age of 3 x 400 Volt require a STAR connection.
VERY IMPORTANT :
• Please check the turning direction of three phase
motors following each connection. If this does not
correspond with the arrow on the motor, two phase
connections in the junction must be reversed.
• An earth safety circuit or breaker switch with a sen-
sitivity of 30 mA is mandatory and must always be
included in the installation.
• For switching the pump, the electrical installation
must also be provided with a multi-polar connec-
tion with a 3 mm contact breaker.
➩ EVERY MOTOR MUST BE PERMANENTLY GROUNDED.
To exclude tension drop off, always select the diam-
eter of the wiring in accordance with the motor
capacity and in function of the distance between the
power supply and the pump.
➩ CONNECTION CABLE DIAMETER MUST BE MINIMUM 2,5 MM
Connections which are not conform to the above
mentioned safety instructions are not covered by the
warranty.
SERVICING
The Challenger pump is designed to operate service-
free for many years. If a failure does occur, it will
most likely be a moving part of the pump.
CAUTION :
Always disconnect the power supply to the pump
before servicing .
The replacement of the electrical motor must be
done by a professional.

Rear assembly replacement
The rear assembly includes the motor, O-ring, seal
plate, impeller and diffuser.
The complete rear assembly can be replaced in a
few minutes without disassembling any piping.
Make replacement as follows :
• Switch off the power. Make sure that all power lines
to the pump are interrupted.
• Remove knob from clamp band and slide the
clamp band of the pump flange.
• Slide out rear assembly and pull away from front
housing.
• Inspect the large housing o-ring for nicks and cults
and replace if damaged. Clean o-ring and apply a
little bit silicone lubricant.
• Install new rear assembly and take care of the
position of the gasket between housing and seal
plate.
• Install the clamp band and tighten securely.
• Connect the pump to the power supply.
TROUBLESHOOTING
Pump will not prime:
• No (or not sufficient) water in strainer pot
• Strainer pot is not sealed off
• Damaged O-ring from the lid
• Water level is below skimmer
• Strainer basket or skimmer basket is clogged
• Air leak in suction line
Motor does not run:
• Power switch is off
• Circuit breaker has tripped
• Pump is off-mode by a timer controlled circuit
• Motor terminal connections are incorrect
• Motor shaft is locked by damaged bearings
• Impeller is locked by debris.
Low flow-high filter pressure
• Filter is dirty
• Restriction in return line
Low flow-low filter pressure
• Strainer basket or skimmer basket is clogged
• Clogged impeller
• Air leak in suction line
• Restriction in suction line
• Reverse rotation of motor (three phase only)
Noisy pump
• Air leak in suction
• Strange elements in pump housing
• Diameter of suction is smaller than required
• Incorrect pump attachment
• Cavitation
Heating of the motor
• Bad or no ventilation
• Size of wiring too small (see electrical connection)
