Safety instructions
This device is to be installed only by a professional electrician
fi tter according to local applicable installation standards.
Do not plug in or unplug this product when it is live.
Its use is only permitted within the limits shown and stated in
the installation instructions. The device and the equipement
connected to can be destroyed by loads exceeding the
values stated.
Operating principle
This kilowatt hour meter measures the active electrical
energy used in an electrical installation.
This device has a digital LCD to display energy used and
power.
The design and manufacture of this meter comply with
Standard EN50470-3 requirements.

JBUS/MODBUS Communication
JBUS/MODBUS MEDIA
In a standard configuration, one RS485 connection enables
32 UL* to be connected to a PC or PLC over 1200 metres
using the JBUS/MODBUS® protocol.
* 1 UL = 2 EC377M.
Recommendations:
An LIYCY type shielded twisted pair must be used. In an
environment with interference or on a long network with a
large number of products, we recommend using a shielded
twisted pair with general LIYCY-CY shielding.
If the distance is greater than 1200 m and /or there are more
than 64 products, a repeater (1 channel) or a spark arrester
(2 channels) must be connected to enable the connection of
additional products with communication interface over more
than 1200 m.
Important:
It is essential to connect a resistance of 120 Ohms to the
2 ends of the connection; this can be found in the product
packaging. Other solutions are available (modem, fibre optic,
etc.); please ask for details.
JBUS/MODBUS protocol
The JBUS/MODBUS protocol operates on a master/slave
structure:
• Reading (Function 3),
• Writing (Function 6 or 16), broadcast option at address 0.
The communication method is RTU (Remote Terminal Unit)
with hexadecimal.
Note :
In installations set as "unbalanced", install one CT per phase.
In installations set as "balanced", install one CT on phase 1.

> Fitting of terminal covers (fig.1 below)
Ensure that after connecting the product, the terminal
covers are correctly fitted and secured by the 2 plastic seals
supplied with the product.
> Locking the programming key make sure the key cover is
closed by securing it with a seal (fig.2 below).
> Events counter
After final programming of the meter, make sure that event
counters C1 and C2 are read.
C1: number of changes made to CT ratio
C2: number of changes made to system type.
• RS485 communication
Information sent via RS485 COM is sent for information only
and has no legal value.
• Using 1 or 2 CT reduces accuracy by 0.5% for the phase
whose current is deduced by vector calculation.

Meter setup
The following settings have to be made before the meter
can be put to use:
- CT ratio.
- Type of network (single or three-phase).
- Type of three-phase installation (balanced or unbalanced).
1. Press the Prog key during 3 sec. to enter the set-up mode.
2. The CT ratio setting is displayed (100A). Press the key
«Read» repeatedly to scroll the possible CT values (50, 100,
150, 200, 250, 300, 400, 600, 800... 3000A).

3. Press «Prog» to confirm and switch to the next setting.
4. The type of network (1L+N, 2L, 3L, 3L+N) is displayed.
Press the key «Read» repeatedly to scroll the possible
values and select the type of network.
5. Press «Prog» to confirm and switch to the next setting.
6. On three-phase installations, the type of installation is

displayed as «Balanced/Unbalanced» (Bl, Unbl).
Press the key «Read» to scroll the values and select the type
of installation.
7. Press «Prog» to confirm.
8. Press the Prog key during 3 sec. to exit the programming
mode.
Display of readings
The various datas can be scrolled
by pressing the Key «Read».
The Default display will indicate
active
energy
consumption
according to the current tariff.
The EC377M provides detailed
display of the total consumptions
according to tariff (T1, T2, T3 or
T4) and in total (T).
Note: The information
the display indicates that the
corresponding phase (1,2,3) is
