This instrument is designed for testing fibre optic installations and so meets the safety requirements of
IEC 60825-1: 1994 (including amendment A11: 1996) and IEC 60825-2: 1995 (including amendment A1: 1998).
This product's output levels are within the Accessible Emission Limits (AEL) for a Class 1 Laser Product and so
does not generate any optical hazards internally. However it can be used to test optical fibres in environments
where light sources that would cause an optical hazard could be present. This corresponds to working within the
AEL for Class 1, Class 2, Class 3A and Class 3B lasers, therefore, please take note of the following safety
warnings:
• Under no circumstances should a connector end-face, prepared optical fibre or fractured optical fibre be viewed
directly unless the power received from the fibre is known to be safe (as defined by IEC 60825) and under local
control.
• AVOID EXPOSURE TO BEAM if the accessible radiation is within the AEL for Class 3B lasers.
• DO NOT STARE INTO BEAM OR VIEW DIRECTLY WITH OPTICAL INSTRUMENTS if the accessible
radiation is within the AEL for Class 3A lasers.
• DO NOT STARE INTO BEAM if the accessible radiation is within the AEL for Class 2 lasers.
• The instrument should not be used if any part of it is damaged.
• Refer to operating instructions for further explanation and precautions.
• Safety Warnings and Precautions must be read and understood before the instrument is used. They must be
observed during use.
THE INSTRUMENT MUST ONLY BE USED BY SUITABLY TRAINED AND COMPETENT PERSONS.
