For the ionophoresis treatment use
Channel 1 with the specific electrodes
only. Electrodes are available upon
payment.
Given the medical use of these applications,
they should only be performed upon consent of
medical personnel.
IONOPHORESIS
The galvanic current maintains a constant inten-
sity over time and allows the movement of char-
ged particles through the tissues. If charged par-
ticles are drugs, then the direct current acts as a
carrier enabling the penetration of medicinal
substances into the organism. This technique is
called IONOPHORESIS.
Ionophoresis can be used to administer water-
soluble medicines through the epidermis.
Ionophoresis may be used in all treatments that
positively affect local inflammatory states such
as bursitis, tendinitis, fascitis, myositis and capsuli-
tis.
Precautions
If the procedure followed is not rigorous and the
intensity is too high, this may cause skin irritation
or burns. The recommended procedure is 0.2 mA
per cm
of electrode. The skin must not have any
2
type of lesions (do not shave before treatment in
order to avoid possible microcuts caused by the
razorblade).
The use of IONOPHORESIS programmes is prohibi-
ted in subjects with metallic implants. Make sure
that the patient is not in contact with metallic
objects (e.g., table or chair).
Use of IONOPHORESIS
The duration of the IONOPHORESIS programme
is set by default to 20 minutes.
The intensity value is adjustable from a minimum
of 1 mA to a maximum of 5 mA.
The safety rule for the intensity is 0.2 mA per cm2
of electrode.
Drugs for IONOPHORESIS
Before use, always seek medical advice.
Carefully read the instructions for use on the drug
packaging.
Before any therapy, check drugs suitability by
consulting a doctor or a physiotherapist, and
identify their exact polarity.
The drug used for the therapy SHOULD NEVER BE
APPLIED DIRECTLY ONTO THE SKIN, but always
onto the absorbent surface of the electrode cor-
responding to the drug polarity, while the absor-
bent surface of the other electrode should be
dampened with slightly salted water, to favour
current circulation.
DENSITY=
For safety DENSITY < 0.2 mA/cm
DRUGS FOR IONOPHORESIS
Some drugs for IONOPHORESIS are provided
below. Check the correct drug polarity. Drug
polarity is indicated on the drug packaging.
