d) Important notes before measuring blood pressure
1. Carry out the measurement somewhere quiet and in a relaxed
position.
2. Stress raises the blood pressure! You should therefore not
measure your blood pressure in stressful situations.
3. In rare cases, errors may occur preventing correct measure-
ment in people with an extremely weak or irregular pulse.
4. It is normal for blood pressure to change in the course of the
day. It is also influenced by various factors such as smoking,
alcohol consumption, the use of medicines and physical activity.
5. Pacemakers and changes in the arm veins can cause the mea-
surement to be imprecise.
6. The blood pressure measurement can also be influenced by
the position of the person examined, his/her physical condition
and other factors.
7. Stay calm during the measurement, and do not talk since this
could cause an incorrect measurement.
8. Wait five minutes before repeating the measurement so that
your circulation can return to normal. Depending on your
physical characteristics, a longer or shorter interval may be
required between measurements.
