Reading the systolic blood pressure
Unscrew the tap slowly counter clockwise and keep the stethoscope head over
the humeral artery. It's essential that an appropriate deflation speed is used
ta gel precise reading. A deflation rate of 2-3 mmHg per second or a drop of one
to two marks on the pressure gauge each heart beat is recommended. Do not
keep the cuff inflated any longer than needed. When pumping starts you should
listen carefully with the stethoscope. Note the pressure shown on the
manometer as soon as you start to hear weak rhythmic beats or muted beats.
This is the systolic pressure reading.
5.
Reading the diastolic blood pressure
Let the pressure fall at the same speed as previously indicated. The diastolic
pressure is reached when the muted beats stop. Deflate the cuff totally and
remove stethoscope and it.
6.
