Thank you for purchasing this Holtex sphygmomanometer. Ifs a practical tool
that will let you check arterial blood pressure accurately.
1.
What is blood pressure?
Arterial blood pressure is the pressure exerted by the blood against artery walls.
Blood pressure changes continuously during the cardiac cycle. The highest Level
during the cycle is called systole, the lowest is called diastole. Both of them have
to be read to evaluate the condition of the arterial pressure. Many factors can
influence blood pressure such as physical activity, anxiety or day time. Pressure
is usually Lower in the morning and becomes more elevated from afternoon until
the evening. It's lower in summer than winter.

What is a normal arterial pressure?
Blood pressure varies from one person to anther and depends on a number of
factors such as age, weight and physical condition. The standard result for an
adult between 18 and 45 years old is 120/180.

How is blood pressure measured?

Installation in a suitable position
It's very important that the person is relaxed and comfortably seated. The arm
must stay at the same height as the heart. The arm has to be extended without
being tense. lt should rest on a flat surface with the left palm turned upwards.
The arm shouldn't move during the measurement.

How to fix the cuff?
Place the sphygmomanometer cuff two or three centimeters above the elbow
on the bare left upper arm. Fix it in position with Velcro parts. The cuff should be
firmly held without being tight. One or two fingers can be introduced beneath
the cuff. Never put it over clothes.

lnflating the cuff
This product is provided with a pressure release tap. Unscrew it to remove
all of the air from the cuff. Close the air valve on the bulb by turning the screw
clockwise, do not over-tighten. Pump up the cuff using a regular rhythm until
the manometer needle reaches 30mmHg above the usual systolic pressure. If
you don't know it, inflate to 200 mmHg. introduce the head of a stethoscope
beneath the cuff.
