The MC-1 filter system is designed for use with treated municipal tap water that may
be of questionable quality. Water from completely untreated water sources, such as
rain barrels, ponds, streams, etc. usually contain higher levels of microbiological
contaminants and should be pretreated. For this reason, US EPA and WHO recommend
disinfecting water with chlorine prior to using the filter system.
1. Water may be disinfected with household chlorine bleach (4% - 6% strength).
a. Under normal circumstances add 2-ml of bleach to 5 gallons of water (or
1/8 teaspoon per gallon of water).
b. Agitate water to mix in bleach and let stand for 30 minutes.
c. After 30 minutes agitate water again and check for chlorine odor. If there
is very little to no odor, add another 1-ml of bleach and wait another 15-20
minutes and check for odor. Continue this process until chlorine odor is
present.
2. After disinfecting water, pump water SLOWLY through the system. The filter will
remove residual chlorine from the water. Slow water flow rates allow the system to
adequately purify the water.

c. Después de 30 minutos, agite el agua nuevamente y verifique el olor a
cloro. Si hay muy poco o nada de olor, agregue otro 1 ml de cloro y espere
otros 15-20 minutos y verifique si hay olor. Continúe este proceso hasta que
haya olor a cloro.
2. Después de desinfectar el agua, bombee el agua LENTAMENTE a través del sistema.
El filtro eliminará cloro residual del agua. Los caudales lentos permiten que el sistema
purifique adecuadamente el agua.
