Phono Preamplifier

Intended Use
The phono preamplifier is designed to digitalise analogue audio signals from devices with a
Phono or Line output, and send them to a computer through a USB interface.
It is also used for amplification and equalization of record players output signals so that a record
player can be connected back to an audio amplifier without phono input.
Power is supplied through a USB port or a power supply with USB output.
The safety instructions must be observed at all times!
Any use other than that described above could lead to damage to this product and involves
the risk of short circuits, fire, electric shock, etc. No part of the product may be modified or
converted!

• For safety reasons, any unauthorised conversion and/or modification to the product is not
permitted.
• The power must be supplied through a USB port or a power supply with USB output.
• The manufacturer's safety instructions for devices to be connected must also be observed.
You should, therefore, also carefully read other relevant operating instructions.
• Do not operate the product if it is damaged.
• This product is not a toy, and should be kept out of the reach of children. Children cannot see
the danger arising from the incorrect use of electrical devices.
• Never pour liquids on electrical devices. Do not place any containers with liquids, such as
buckets, vases or plants, in the immediate proximity of the product. Liquids could get inside
the housing and thus impair electrical safety. There is danger of fire or a life-threatening
electric shock! Should liquids be spilled into the housing, disconnect the device from the USB
power supply immediately. The product must not be used after that; take it to a specialist
workshop.
• The device may not be exposed to extreme temperatures, strong vibrations, high humidity
(e.g. droplets or splashes of water) or substantial mechanical stress.
• Do not place open flames, such as burning candles, on or near to the device.
• Use the device only in a moderate climate, not in tropical climates.
• Do not leave packaging materials unattended. It may become a dangerous plaything for
children.
• If you have doubts about how the product should be operated, or about safety or the connec-

Connection and start-up
F or connection use only suitable and shielded audio cables.
C onnect the audio connectors on only analogue connections of audio devic-
es. Should your device not have the required inputs or outputs, use a suitable
adapter.
If in doubt, consult an expert.
C arefully read the input and output connection and/or compatibility section in
the relevant operating instructions of the devices that are to be connected.
F ailure to comply with these instructions can lead to damage to the phono
preamplifier or any connected devices.
A ll devices to be connected, as well as the phono preamplifier must be turned
off during connection and any changes to it.
W hen making the connections, make sure that the connecting cables cannot
be pinched or damaged by sharp edges.
T he USB connector can be connected to USB ports or power supplies with a
USB output.
When connecting observe the colour coding of the RCA jacks:
red = right audio signal
white = left audio signal
Digitization of records
• Connect the output of your record player to the PHONO IN connector on the phono preampli-
fier.
If your record player has a ground terminal (usually a metal screw terminal or a thin
ground wire), connect this terminal with the screw terminal next to the PHONO IN
connector.
• Slide the MM/MC switch in the correct position according to the cartridge used:
MM = Moving Magnet-System / MC = Moving Coil System
• The position of the LINE IN/PRE-AMP OUT switch is not relevant in this particular use.
• Connect the USB connector on the phono preamplifier with a free USB port on your computer.
• The computer recognizes the phono preamplifier automatically and install the required drivers.
• Start your digitizing software and set the source "USB PREAMP" one.
• Start playback on the record player.
