11. The PowerCel Adapter connects to the lithium-ion PowerCel battery which
could overheat due to the unlikely event of an internal battery short. In this shorted
condition, the battery can generate enough heat to cause a BURN. If you begin
to feel excessive heat from the battery, remove it immediately. Handle the PowerCel
Adapter by the attached cable to avoid a potential burn.
If an internal battery short occurs, the patient will be unable to hear sound and
may indicate their device problem through visual cues, such as, pointing to their
device, crying or other signs of physical discomfort. If any of these occur and
if the battery feels HOT, immediately remove the battery from the patient and
contact Advanced Bionics or your clinician for troubleshooting.
The PowerCel Adapter device should be clipped to the outside of clothing and
NEVER worn against skin. This minimizes the potential risk of a burn in the
unlikely event of an internal battery short. The use of the PowerCel Adapter is
contraindicated for patients who cannot communicate verbally or who cannot
remove the PowerCel Adapter by themselves.
