Attaching the Grass Deflector
Attaching the grass defl ector differs depending on the type
of trimmer: curved shaft or straight shaft.
WARNING:
The line cutting blade on the grass defl ector
is sharp. Avoid contact with the blade. Failure
to avoid contact can result in serious personal
injury.
Note: To protect the operator, always be sure to attach the
grass defl ector.
To Attach the Curved Shaft Grass Deflector

See Figure 5.
Follow these steps to attach the curved shaft grass defl ector.
1. Press the grass defl ector onto the bottom of the curved
shaft as shown.
2. Lift the grass barrier up slightly.
3. Insert the hex head cap screw through the grass defl ec-
tor, bracket, and grass barrier.
4. Place the fl at washer and lock washer on the hex head
cap screw.
5. Place the wing nut or hex nut on the hex head cap screw
and turn clockwise to secure.

To Attach the Straight Shaft Grass Deflector
Model No. 51970 and Model No. 51990

Follow these steps to attach the straight shaft grass defl ector.
1. Remove the slotted hex head screw from the grass
defl ector.
2. Insert the tab on the mounting bracket in the slot on the
grass defl ector.
3. Align the screw hole in the mounting bracket with the
screw hole in the grass defl ector.
4. Insert the slotted hex head screw through the mounting
bracket and into the grass defl ector.
5. Tighten the screw securely.
