HOW TO PLAY
ideaS for gameplay
There are two teams facing off, each with 2-12 people. The players are trying to
knock down the opposite team's serfs by throwing the batons at them. Whiche-
ver team knocks down all the serfs of the opposite team and then knocks down
the king figurine in the middle, wins the game. If the king is knocked down be-
fore the team has knocked down all of the serfs on the opposite side, the team
that knocked over the king has lost the game.
game preparation
Set up the game pieces as shown in Figure 2. The playing area will be marked
by the four field marking pins (so long as it is possible to put them in the ground).
Players must split into two teams (Team A and Team B).
Starting the game
Each team has to stand behind their respective baseline which is marked by the
line of serfs. Determine which team throws first.
gameplay
The starting team (Team A) tries to knock down the opponent's serfs with its
batons. The batons must be thrown forward/up. Horizontal throws and throws
with rotation are forbidden.
Next comes Team B and throws back all the serfs knocked down by Team A into
the opponent's half (between the king and baseline). Team A replaces the serfs
where they have landed. (See Illus. 3). The distance from the king should be at
least a baton long. If a serf does not land in the opponent's field even after the
second throw, Team A can place it anywhere it wishes. If a king is knocked
down, the throwing team loses.
All images are examples of the design.
Now it's Team B's turn to throw. But before the players can try to knock down
the serfs on Team A's baseline, they must first knock down Team A's field serfs.
If a baseline serf is knocked down before all of the field serfs are knocked down,
it must be returned to standing position. Only after Team B has knocked down
all of Team A's field serfs are they allowed to knock down the baseline serfs. The
fallen field serfs are removed from the game.
Once Team B has used all of the batons, a new round has begun. It is Team A's
turn again. Team A now must throw all of the serfs that Team B has knocked
down upfield, into Team B's half of the playing area. If Team B is not able to first
knock down all the field serfs, Team A gets an advantage: Team A's throwing line
may be moved (See Ill. 3). Instead of having to throw from the baseline, Team A
may throw anywhere as long as they do not move forward past their own field
serf closest to the center line. This field serf marks the new throwing line for
Team A for this round. Everything else remains the same. If Team A doesn't
succeed in knocking down all of Team B's field serfs, then Team B gains this
advantage line when it is their turn again.
Once a team has knocked down all of the field serfs and the baseline serfs of the
opponent, it must now attempt to knock down the king. The throw line for this
throw is always the baseline. If the team succeeds, it wins.
