Unpacking and Assembling
Your Grinder
•
Carefully unpack your grinder. Ensure all packaging materials are
removed and fully familiarise yourself with all features of the product.
•
If any parts are damaged or missing, have these parts repaired or
replaced before use.
•
This machine should always be securely mounted to a suitably sturdy
workbench.
Attaching the eye shields
• The grinder should never be used without the supplied eye shields (2).
Attempting to use the grinder without the eye shields, or with the eye
shields incorrectly fitted, is highly dangerous and could result in severe
injury to yourself or others around you.
•
The eye shields should be attached to the guards (3), using the nuts and
bolts supplied.
Attaching the tool rests
•
The grinder should never be used without the supplied tool rests (4).
Attempting to use the grinder without the tool rests, or with the tool rests
incorrectly fitted, is highly dangerous and could result in severe injury to
yourself or others around you.
•
The tool rests should be attached to the guards (3), using the nuts and
bolts supplied.
•
The tool rests can be adjusted to best suit the work to be performed.
Always ensure that the tool rests are securely tightened before use.
•
As the grinding wheel wears, it will be necessary to adjust the tool rests.
The gap between the wheel, and the rest should be less than 3mm at
all times.
Before Use
•
Always check that all parts or attachments are secure, and that rotating
parts will not foul on guards or machine case.
•
Be aware that the cast metal motor housing may get hot during use.
•
Ensure that any ventilation holes are not obscured in any way. Hot air
may be emitted from the machine when in use.
•
Always wear suitable personal protective equipment for the job that you
are to do. Use of this machine requires ear defenders, safety goggles,
gloves, and a breathing mask.

Operating Instructions
WARNING
Always unplug the grinder from the mains supply before attempting to
fit or replace any attachment. Never fit any attachment with a maximum
speed lower than the no load speed of the machine.
Fitting a grinding wheel
•
Only fit wheels of the correct size for this machine (see specifications).
•
Remove the screws in the end cover of the wheel guard (3), and remove
the end cover.
•
Remove the retaining nut from the centre of the grinding wheel.
•
The grinding wheel can now be removed and replaced.
•
Ensure that the retaining nut, and end cover are replaced and securely
tightened before use.
NOTE: Over tightening the retaining nut can cause the wheel to crack. Do
not use excess force.
Switching on
NOTE: Do not switch the machine on/off when under load. Always allow
the motor to reach its full speed before applying load, and to stop
completely before leaving unattended.
•
To start the machine, press the part of the on/off switch (5) marked "1"
•
To start the machine, press the part of the on/off switch (5) marked "0"
Grinding
•
Only use grinding wheels of the proper size for this machine.
•
Always hold work against the tool rest (4), and grip with both hands.
•
Do not attempt to work material that is too small to grip securely.
•
Always refer to wheel manufacturer's literature before use. Check that
the wheel is suitable for the material that you intend to work.
•
Metal grinding may produce sparks. Ensure that you are properly
protected, and that any flammable materials are removed from the work
area.
•
When grinding, the work piece will be rapidly heated. It may be necessary
to quench the work in water to prevent heat damage.
Maintenance
Cleaning
•
Disconnect the machine from the mains supply before cleaning.
•
During use, dust and metallic particles, will accumulate on the machine.
Always clean dust and particles away, and never allow ventilation holes to
become blocked.
•
Use a soft brush, or dry cloth to clean the machine, if available blow
through ventilation holes with clean, dry, compressed air.
