Operating Instructions
Radial Compressors
Safety Regulations
Please comply with Accident Prevention Regulations
VBG 16 Compressors, in particular Section IIIc
"Installation" and IV "Operation" and VBG 4 "Electrical
Installations and Equipment".
Alterations to the radial compressors may be effected
only after agreement by the factory.
Air compression will generate high temperatures at
the radial compressors:
- Install compressors in a position where hot surfaces
cannot be touched
- Or protect the area around them
- Or install warning signs.
Application
Radial compressors are used for the generation of
overpressure. Their characteristics apply up to a
height of 800 m above sea level.
When operating radial compressors, ensure that
only normal atmospheric air can be taken in.
Transport and storage
Store radial compressors in a dry place and protect
against condensate through water vapour.
Transport in usage position with secure stand on the
equipment foot. To be lifted with belts only (do not
use ring screws).
Installation
It is recommended to install the radial compressor
with easy access for maintenance.
Clearance between compressors and adjacent walls

should be no less than 10 cm of free space in order
to ensure sufficient air flow for cooling. Contact Gebr.
Becker prior to installation under noise insulation
canopies.
Ambient temperatures must not exceed 45°C.
Assembly
Ensure correct dimensions (vs. table) of and clean
pipelines (no weld spatter, chips or similar
contamination).
Keep connections free from oil, grease, water and
other contaminants.
Remove end caps at DA and SA. Do not connect to
pipeline yet.
Motor connection
Observe separate instructions for frequency
converter.
The motor is only to be connected to a frequency
converter admitted for this purpose by Gebr. Becker.
Connect the radial compressor to the electricity supply
observing all applicable safety regulations. Comply
with EN 60204 T1.
Connect motor based on connecting diagram. This
work should be carried out by an experienced
electrician only.
Remove cover DE and then the air filter. Attention:
Do not insert your hand into the suction hole and do
not touch the rotating rotor.
Briefly start motor and check rotation (arrow on
inside of housing cover). Exchange phases if rotation
is incorrect. Install air filter and close cover DE.

counterclockwise with view direction BR. Exchange
phases of motor fan if rotation is incorrect.
Commissioning
Connect pressure line at DA and inlet line at SA. The
lines must be elastic to avoid mechanical stress on
the radial compressor.
Loud swinging sounds in the presure line indicate
insufficient taking-off of air. Adjust machine to take-
off more air or bleed-off air via an additional tap.
Maintenance
Regular maintenance of your radial compressor will
yield the best results. Maintenance intervals will
depend on use and operating conditions.
Before carrying out any maintenance, disconnect
motor from mains and reliably prevent unintentional
restarting. Maintenance instructions of the system
manufacturer must be complied with.
The filter cartridge is mounted behind the cover DE
and is to be cleaned depending on dust ratio. Blow
out filter using compressed air from inside to outside.
Blocked, oily or greasy cartridges must be replaced.
Blow out contaminations at the surfaces and the
motor fan using compressed air.
The filter of the switching cabinet must be cleaned,
too. Contaminated filters impair electronic component
cooling and may lead to failure.

Motors with regreasing nippels of the roller bearing:
Regreasing of the rooler bearings every 3,000
operating hours. The amount of grease used shall
not exceeed 7 g. The grease must be distributed by
a special frequency increase run.
