Finally glue the gear rack 5.20 to 5.17.
Now assemble the winch provisionally.
For the spindle carriers 5.31 the base plate is
drilled exactly in the middle in front of the brake
discs 5.14 with D 2 mm. Cut off the two brake
bands 5.34 approx. 90 mm long. Then drill a 2 mm
hole at approx. 10 mm. Make the second 2 mm
hole with exactly 66 mm centre-to-centre distance.
Place the brake bands in the winch and secure with
the spindle carrier. Bend the crank handles out of
brass wire 5.36 and solder them to the spindles
5.35 (you can also glue on the cranks with 5 min
epoxy). Slide a sleeve 5.37 and a washer 5.38 onto
the spindle. The split pin 5.39 is widened over the
spindle 5.34 and inserted. Angle the brake band at
the free hole so that there is enough space for the
M 2 nut. Insert the spindle through the brake band
and screw on the nut 5.40. If the brake is to work
later, the nut must be glued or soldered to the
brake band, the spindle must remain movable.

In the last step, mount the gear lever, the control
wheel and the drive unit for the guide carriage.
Bend the gear lever 5.29 and fix it on the gearbox
housing. Drill a 2 mm hole for the axle 5.27 for the
control wheel. Glue the control wheel onto the
axle and slide a sleeve 5.37 onto it. Glue the com-
plete unit into the winch housing.
Assemble the drive unit for the guide carriage from
parts 5.25 and 5.26.

drum axle.
Stage 6, Foremast, Main Mast and Rigging, Parts
6.1 to 6.26
First glue the plug 6.2 from below into the rear
mast foot (2.3) so that the plug protrudes 5 mm
below. Use 5-min Epoxi or Stabilit Express for glu-
ing.
Next, install the front mast support. Sand the
dowel 6.1 flat at one end on both sides so that it
fits into the keel edge of the ABS hull.
In the next step, taper the two masts conically.
Mark the cylindrical part of one end at 160 mm on
the main mast (back). From this marking the mast
is ground thinner up to the tip. The upper end
should be approx. 6 mm. The foremast is marked
at 70 mm. Now proceed as for the main mast.
The two booms also taper.
Since the fittings on mast 6.3 and mast 6.4 are very
similar, they are described only once. 4 wedges 6.5
(drawing W) are made from 3 mm plywood resi-
dues. They will later serve as supports for the
shrouds. Stick the support wedges 6.5 to the masts
according to the plan. Flatten the poles with a file
(see drawing W).
