Step 3: Identify the inlet and outlet of the filter marked on top of the housing
Solder at least 2-3" pipe length to one of the ¾" male adapters.
Solder the other end of the 2-3" pipe to one end of a union fitting and allow cooling to room temp.
Apply 4 to 5 wraps of thread seal tape, in a clockwise direction to the male threads of the 1"x3/4" reducer
and thread in to INLET port of the housing, taking care not to cross thread. DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN fitting
into head or it may crack, about one to two thread(s) should remain visible.
Apply 4 to 5 wraps of thread seal tape, in a clockwise direction to
the male threads of the ¾" adapter and partially thread it on to the
1"x3/4" reducer fitting. Hold the reducer fitting with one wrench
and tighten the adapter into it with another wrench. Again, DO NOT
OVER-TIGHTEN.
Repeat above steps for other side of the head.
Step 4: Plumbing: Turn off water supply now and open a nearby faucet to
drain water out of pipes and relieve pressure. Once all the water from the pipes is drained, measure and cut pipe as
required and plumb in other fittings as shown in fig A and fig B or fig C. CAUTION: To protect the housing from
damage due to heat from soldering, wrap the ports in a wet cloth during soldering.
Step 5: Installing the cartridge:
Remove plastic wrap from filter cartridge (not included) and place it in sump, making sure it is centered.
Screw on the sump onto the head by turning counter-
clockwise to tighten.
Hand-tighten only. DO NOT USE WRENCH TO TIGHTEN
THE SUMP.
Open valves before and after the filter unit, slowly turn
on water supply and check for leaks. Flush water for 10
minutes prior to use. YOUR UNIT IS NOW IN
OPERATION
(E) MAINTENANCE
1. O-ring Seals : Replace O-rings annually. Lubricate both O-rings on the top of the sump after every cartridge
change to prolong their life. Use food grade silicone lubricant or other non-petroleum based lubricants only.
2.
Sump : Lubricate threads on the sump with the same silicone lubricant.
recommended to replace sumps at least once every 5 years to prevent costly repairs or possible
water damage. Record date of installation of new sump at the bottom.
3. Cartridge Replacement : Replace filter cartridge when either flow drops or every 4-6 months, whichever is
earlier. Wash the filter sump with mild soap and water. DO NOT use harsh cleaners or hot water. If your unit
is not used in winter, or will be subject to freezing temperatures, drain unit and remove cartridges.
CHANGING YOUR CARTRIDGE & REPLACING O-RINGS
You should change your cartridge when the water flow is noticeably
reduced or every 4-6 months, whichever is earlier. O-Rings (BH010-3P)
should be replaced annually (available at same retailer or call Rainfresh to
order)
To replace cartridge:
1. Shut off the inlet valve and open a faucet close by until pressure in
the unit is relieved. Alternatively you can press the red vent button on top of the unit until pressure is
released. Now shut off outlet valve to prevent water in the plumbing lines to continuously drain through the
housing.
