edge toward the outside of the bath. When fitted correctly, they should
rest at the bottom of the edge of the bath. If necessary, they may be
trimmed to length.
4. Place the base of the unit into the bath as far away from the taps as
possible. If the taps are at one end of the bath, place the unit so it
faces them. Allow room at the back of the bath for the back of the unit
to recline.
5. Push both sucker feet securely onto the bottom of the bath.
6. To fit the backrest onto the seat unit, angle the backrest forward until
the hinges are aligned with the slots in the seat brackets. Simply lower
the hinges into the brackets, ensuring that they locate fully, and push
the backrest backwards until it clicks into the upright position.
7. The seat has four positions between upright and full recline. To recline
the back, ensure that the seat is at the lowest level. Press firmly down
against the metal release through the seat whilst holding the backrest
and clicking it into the desired position. To ensure that it is locked in
place, hold the top of the backrest and apply pressure backwards and
forwards.
8. Attach the hand controller by pushing together the connectors on the
drive mechanism cable and the hand controller. Making sure the
cables are away from the unit, check that the unit is able to move up
and down without obstructions by using the hand controller to raise
and lower the seat.
9. To lower the unit into the bath, depress the down pad (labelled

Press the up pad (labelled
) to raise the unit. To stop the unit at any
time, simply remove pressure from either pad. The pads have a large
surface area to enable them to be operated using any part of the hand.

Spare sucker feet
Your Bathmaster Xtra has been supplied and fitted with a pair of flat
dimpled feet on the rear and a pair of suction cup feet on the front. The
combination of feet has been successfully tested for stability. However,
fitting suction cup feet to the rear as well as the front has been found to
offer greater security in certain deeply sloping or contoured baths. For this
reason, we have included a second pair of suction cup feet for you to fit to
the rear of your Bathmaster Xtra if required.
The suction cup feet have a wire clip arrangement that ensures the feet
cannot be inadvertendly pulled off of the ball joints on the frame. To fix the
feet onto the frame, prise the wire clip out of the sucker foot using a small
screwdriver or penknife if necessary. Push the foot onto the ball joint and
replace the wire clip. Ensure that the clip is replaced via the flat side of the
moulding and that the clip is pushed fully home.
Using the unit whilst bathing
In case of an emergency, operation of the unit can be stopped
immediately by disconnecting the hand controller from the unit.
10. If possible, the user should operate the hand controller so movement
can be stopped instantly in case of discomfort. Releasing the switch at
any time stops the movement of the unit. The unit stops automatically
when it reaches its lowest and highest levels.
11. With the seat level with the rim of the bath, check the unit for stability
to ensure a secure transfer onto the seat.
12. Position the user on the seat and swivel the body to swing the legs
into the bath.
13. Ensure that the user's feet are in front of the seat, not tucked under it,
and the hands, cables, and all other objects are away from the side
flaps and the seat.
14. After bathing is complete, raise the unit until the seat is level with the
rim of the bath so the user can get out of the bath.
Removing the unit from the bath
To reduce the weight of the unit, and therefore the possibility of back
injury, disassemble the unit prior to removing it from the bath. It is also
possible to remove the unit from the bath folded.
For ease of transportation and for storage, the unit can be folded or
disassembled as follows:
