Troubleshooting
Problem
Grinder is making a
very loud sharp noise
Coffee dispensed is
watery
No steam or hot
water is coming out
of the steam wand
Steam or hot water
have stopped
dispensing
mid-process
There is water
underneath the drip
tray
The portafilter does
not turn and lock into
place in group-head
Poor crema formation
and weak espresso
Cause
There are foreign objects in the grinder.
Grinder setting is too coarse.
The machine is not preheated yet.
Water tank is empty.
The function was cancelled early.
NOTE: Hot Water will stop automatically
once preset volume is dispensed. This
volume can be changed in SmartHQ.
Residual water, steam, or condensation
may be present underneath the drip
tray. This is normal and should not be a
problem.
Portafilter is not level and/or not at the
correct angle to be inserted.
Dosage is too large and is coming in
contact with group-head.
High altitude affects boiling point and
extraction.
Solution
Clear the grinder per the directions in
the Care and Cleaning section.
■ Adjust coffee bean grind size to
a finer setting during grinding
operation.
■ Go to the SmartHQ app and adjust
coffee settings.
Wait for machine to preheat. Once water
is up to temperature, the process will
begin.
Refill the water tank to continue process.

Wipe the area under the drip tray with a
cloth or towel.
Ensure the portafilter is level and
inserted at a 45 degree angle before
twisting.
Remove a small amount of coffee from
portafilter or use a lower dosage.
Adjustments may be made using the
SmartHQ app for high altitude settings.
