This filter operates under pressure. If this
unit is not assembled properly or
is operated with air in the circulation
system, serious bodily injury and/or
property damage could occur.
HOW YOUR FILTER WORKS
Your filter is designed to operate for years while requiring minimal
maintenance. The corrosion resistant design results in trouble free
operation when installed, operated and maintained in accordance
with these instructions.
This filter is a diatomaceous earth (D.E.) type regenerative filter
and requires D.E. in order to operate. The filter grid cloth is coated
with a layer of D.E. which collects dirt as water from the pool passes
through the grids. As the dirt load on the grids increases, the
pressure inside the filter rises and the flow of water to the pool
diminishes. Over time, the filter grids will become clogged with dirt
at which time it will be necessary to perform the D.E. regeneration
feature.
This regeneration process is a mechanical means of dislodging the
D.E./dirt cake from the grids, exposing a clean surface for filtration.
The regeneration provides a more efficient use of the D.E. and
lengthens the time between filter cleaning and recharging. The
regeneration is accomplished by moving a series of wipers across
the grids. The handle on top of the filter is used to drive the wipers
up and down.
At some point, the D.E. will become completely laden with dirt
which will require that the grids be manually cleaned. Regeneration
and cleaning will be discussed in detail later.
Please note that clear water is a result of proper filtration as well as
proper water chemistry. A filter removes suspended matter but does
not sanitize the pool. The pool water must be sanitized and
chemically balanced for sparkling water. Pool chemistry is a
specialized area and you should consult your local pool service
specialist for specific details.
INSTALLATION
• Examine your equipment when received. Notify your dealer or
carrier of any damage or missing parts. You should verify that the
equipment is the size and model specified.
• Locate the filter on a solid foundation as close to the pool as pos-
sible. Space for routine maintenance should be considered. The
position of the drain should be such to accommodate adequate
drainage away from equipment.
• This filter should be coupled with an appropriately sized pump. A
full line of Jacuzzi pool pumps are available for installation with
these filters. Ask your dealer to determine the proper pump for your
application.
• Assemble piping and pipe fittings to pump and filter. All piping
must conform to local and state plumbing and sanitary codes.

• The following general guidelines should be
followed where applicable:
FOR SOLVENT WELD CONNECTIONS
•
Rigid or flexible PVC pipe can be used. Pipe
ends should be clean and free of any flash
caused by the cutting operation. Be sure that
the proper adhesive is used on the type of
pipe specified.
Recommended Adhesives - These are
examples only and are not intended to
restrict brands.

Note: A primer will assure that adhesive joints are superior. Sure-
gard P-3000 has a purple tracer to qualify in areas where codes
specify a primer must be used.
• FOR THREADED CONNECTIONS
Use only Teflon tape or equivalent on threaded plumbing connec-
tions. Other pipe compounds may damage threads. We do not
recommend the use of silicone or petroleum based compounds.
DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN. Tighten fittings until snug.
• Long piping runs and elbows restrict flow and should be avoided.
For best efficiency, use the fewest possible fittings and the largest
possible diameter pipe (1-1/2" minimum).
• If a pool heater is installed, a check valve is recommended
between the filter and heater to prevent hot water from entering the
filter which may cause damage to the unit.
• Do not install a chlorinator upstream from the filter. Always install
a chlorinator downstream with a check valve between the
chlorinator and filter.
• Do not store pool chemicals within 10 feet of your filtration
equipment. Pool chemicals should be stored in a cool, dry, well
ventilated area.
• The maximum operating pressure of this unit is 50 PSI. NEVER
operate this filter above this pressure or attach to a pump which
can generate more than 50 PSI.
FILTER START UP
1) Be certain that the filter cover is pushed com-
pletely down.
2) Check to be sure Ring-Lok nut on filter is
tightened to "built-in stops", and drain valve
and air vent are closed. If filter Ring-Lok is
not tightened to "built-in stops", filter lid
could blow off causing injury or property damage.
