DCF Reception
• After the batteries have been inserted, the clock searches automatically for the DCF signal. This
is indicated by a flashing radio tower symbol on the display.
• Normally, the synchronisation process is completed within a few minutes.
• As soon as the DCF signal is decoded, the display WAVE OK appears and the current time and
date are shown in the display. During the summer time in addition to the radio tower icon display
"DST" will also appear.
The detection of the DCF signal and its evaluation can take a few minutes. Do not move
the radio wall clock during that time. Do not press any buttons or switches!
Bad DCF reception can occur, for example, by metallised insulated glass, reinforced
concrete buildings, coated special wallpapers, proximity to electronic devices, or in-
stallation in cellars.
If the current time is not displayed after 10 minutes, change the position of the ra-
dio wall clock and start a manual attempt again to detect the DCF signal (see chapter
"Manual DCF reception attempt").
The reception attempt for the daily automatic synchronisation with the DCF time is done at 00.00
AM. If the device does not receive any signal, the WAVE OK display goes out and the clock starts
a new reception attempt every three hours.
One successful reception per day is sufficient to keep the deviation to less than one second.
The DCF signal is encoded and transmitted via a DCF trans-
mitter in Mainflingen (near Frankfurt am Main). Its range is
up to 1,500 km and, under ideal reception conditions, and
even up to 2,000 km.
Among other things, the DCF signal includes the precise
time (theoretical deviation of one second in a million years!)
and the date.
Naturally, this also eliminates the hassle of manually setting
summer and winter times.
Manual DCF reception attempt
• To perform a manual search for the DCF signal (e.g., if you have placed the radio wall clock in a
different location), briefly press the SET/WAVE button.
• This will start a manual reception attempt. Then, as described above, wait until the current time
is displayed.
Setting the Time Manually
The manual time setting is required if the radio wall clock is to be used outside the
DCF reception range or if there are DCF reception interferences due to environmental
conditions.
• Press the SET/WAVE button for two seconds until the display for the language selection flashes.
• Set the desired language for the weekday display by pressing the "-" button.
• Set the time zone by pressing the "+" button (the time zone can be adjusted in the range of +/- 1 h).
• Use the SET/WAVE button to confirm and set the year using the buttons "+" and "-".
• Use the SET/WAVE button to confirm and set the date using the buttons "+" and "-".
• Use the SET/WAVE button to confirm and set the time using the buttons "+" and "-".
• Use the SET/WAVE button to confirm and set the desired display format using the "+" button
(12h or 24h format).
• Use the "-" button to set the desired unit for the temperature display (°C or °F).
• To complete the process, press the SET/WAVE button again.
During the setting process, you can keep the "+" or "-" buttons pressed to perform a
continuous change of the values.
Thermometer
The clock is equipped with a thermometer that shows the room temperature.
If the temperature lies outside the measurement range, the temperature display shows "Lo" (tem-
perature too low) or "Hi" (temperature too high).
Troubleshooting
In purchasing the radio-controlled wall clock, you have acquired a product with state of the art
design that is operationally reliable. Nevertheless, problems or faults may occur.
Therefore, we would like to describe here how to eliminate possible faults.
The clock does not synchronise or only has temporary reception:
• The distance to the DCF transmitter is too great or restricted by geographical conditions.
• Change the location of the product; switch off interfering devices such as TV sets, computers or
microwave ovens.
• Avoid a location in the vicinity of large metal surfaces, which may shield the radio signals. Win-
dows with a vapour deposited metal layer can also influence the signal reception.
• Place the clock near a window for synchronisation, and align the front or back side in the direc-
tion of Frankfurt (Germany).
• Leave the clock switched on overnight to reduce atmospheric interference.
The displayed temperatures are not correct:
• The clock is exposed to direct sunlight.
• The clock is located too close to a heat source (heater, electronic device, etc.)
The display shows confused symbols or nothing is displayed at all:
• Press the RESET button with a sharp object (e.g. a straightened paper clip). The built-in micro-
processor is reset and the clock goes back into the DCF reception mode.
Maintenance and cleaning
The product does not require any maintenance and should never be disassembled for any reason.
Please use a soft, dry, clean cloth for cleaning.
Do not use aggressive detergents as these can cause discolouration of the case.
Do not press on the sensitive display surface
Disposal
a) Product
Electronic devices are recyclable waste materials and must not be disposed of in the
household waste!
Dispose of an unserviceable product in accordance with the relevant statutory regula-
tions.
Remove the batteries if there are batteries inserted and dispose of them separately
from the product.
b) Normal and Rechargeable Batteries
As an end user, you are required by law (Battery Regulation) to return used batteries and re-
chargeable batteries. Do not dispose of used batteries in the household waste!
Batteries/rechargeable batteries contain harmful materials and are labelled with the
symbol shown to indicate that disposal in the household waste is forbidden. The sym-
bols of the relevant heavy metals are: Cd=cadmium, Hg=mercury, Pb=lead (marking
can be seen on the battery/rechargeable battery, e.g. underneath the refuse bin symbol
shown on the left).
You can return your used batteries/rechargeable batteries free of charge at the official
collection points in your community, in our stores, or at places where batteries or re-
chargeable batteries are sold!
You thereby fulfil your statutory obligations and contribute to the protection of the environment.
