REGULATION RECOMMENDATION: TWELVE RECOMMENDATIONS CONCERNING SDG
(SUPPEMENTARY GRIP DEVICE)
1. All SGD users must respect all of the following guidelines in full, any user who fails to so must
accept their sole legal responsibility for any resulting damages caused by the product to the vehicle
or any persons.
2. SGD should only be used on snow or ice bound roads that are open to road traffic. Do not forget that
the handling of the vehicle will change when driving with SGD fitted. Consequently any sudden braking
or acceleration should be avoided. Never drive on dry roads (free from snow or ice): this could cause
undue wear to the product and seriously reduce the vehicle's performance capabilities.
3. All vehicle manufacturer guidelines must be respected in full, please refer to the vehicle handbook
(notably the chapter regarding tyres and snow chains). Tyres must be in good condition and inflated to
the pressures indicated in the vehicle handbook.
4. All fitting instructions must be followed carefully in order to ensure efficient braking performance and
vehicle handling. Removal instructions must be followed carefully to avoid damaging the product and/
or vehicle.
5. Users must pay careful attention to the compatibility of the product with the exact dimensions of
the tyres fitted to their vehicle. For more information refer to the "snow chains" page on the www.
polaire.eu website. For user comfort and safety, we strongly recommend that the user practices fitting
and removing SGD before any use in a real situation, the fitting and removal procedures should be
performed at least once before departure.
6. SGD should only ever be fitted in pairs, on the drive wheels if only one pair is fitted. It is recommended
that two pairs of SGD be fitted on four wheel drive vehicles. The user must respect all applicable rules
referring to towing conditions for the country in which they are driving. The user must undertake to
comply to the applicable Highway Code of the country in which they are driving, whilst also avoiding
exceeding the product's speed limit of 50km/h.
7. In the interests of user safety, the vehicle must be parked and secured in a zone allocated for this
purpose. The user must wear a suitable high-viz jacket in compliance with the applicable laws of the
country they are driving in. Before fitting, the SGD must be visually checked to ensure that there is no
more than 45% wear (see fitting instructions). Never use damaged SGD; this will damage your vehicle.
Only use authorised original spare-parts to repair the SGD. Never use damaged SGD; this will damage
your vehicle. This SGD model may not be repaired. After fitting the SGD, check that no part of the
product is in contact with the vehicle body, even with the steering at full-lock. Pay careful attention to
fingers, hands and hair when fitting or removing.
8. The user must immediately stop the vehicle and check the fitting and condition of the SGD if they
hear any unusual sound when driving. All parts of the SGD that are in contact with the road surface are
subject to wear. Should the SGD break, they should be removed immediately to avoid damaging the
vehicle.
9. The user must carefully check that the SGD remain correctly fitted after having driven around one
kilometre.
10. SGD must never be used when road conditions no longer justify their use, as indicated previously
in paragraph 2. The user must remove the SGD before leaving the vehicle parked for any long period
of time, otherwise the frost may make their removal difficult.
11. It is strongly recommended that the SGD are thoroughly washed and dried after each use before
returning them to their storage bag.
12. These guidelines arise from the careful attention which must be paid to all of the provisions
contained in the Law issued by the Ministry of Transport on the 18th July 1985, as published in the
Official Journal of the French Republic on the 4th of September 1985.
