4.2 The high pass (HP)

Dividing the low and midrange frequencies from the
tweeter is not only of great importance to the sound but
also to the capability of the entire combination. Accord-
ingly, up to 18 dB slope as well as a protective device
and a level attenuation are provided for the DNU-300 in
this case. Please refer to fig. 1.
4.2.1 Tweeter protection
At first it should be determined if the tweeter is to be
equipped with a speaker protective device.
Important!
If no protective device is provided, solder a jumper into
position S1 in any case.
The following protective devices can be used here:
Soffits
(e. g. PL-... and socket PLH-4 by MONACOR)
Circuit breakers
Protection modules (e. g. DSP-1 by MONACOR) or
PTC resistors
Drill holes and construction space are directly provided
in field S1 for soffits with bracket and SFB components.
For the connection of module DSP-1 cable connections
to an external mounting site have to be soldered in.
4.2.2 High pass 6 dB without level attenuation
1) Assemble position C3.
2) Solder a jumper into position C4.
3) Solder a jumper between R2 and R3 (PCB imprint
).
4) Connect the tweeter to "+H" and "-H".
4.2.3 High pass 6 dB with level attenuation
1) Assemble positions C3, R2, and R3.
2) Solder a jumper into position C4.
3) Connect the tweeter to "+H" and "-H".
Hint
If the level attenuation is not made by a voltage divider
as usual, but only via a series resistor, do not assemble
position R3.
4.2.4 High pass 12 dB without level attenuation
1) Assemble positions C3 and L3.
2) Solder a jumper into position C4.
3) Solder a jumper between R2 and R3 (PCB imprint
).
4) Connect the tweeter to "+H" and "-H".
4.2.5 High pass 12 dB with level attenuation
1) Assemble positions C3, L3, R2, and R3.
2) Solder a jumper into position C4.
3) Connect the tweeter to "+H" and "-H".
4.2.6 High pass 18 dB without level attenuation
1) Assemble positions C3, C4, and L3.
2) Solder a jumper between R2 and R3 (PCB imprint
).
3) Connect the tweeter to "+H" and "-H".
4.2.7 High pass 18 dB with level attenuation
1) Assemble positions C3, C4, L3, R2, and R3.
2) Connect the tweeter to "+H" and "-H".

4.3 Possible combinations of low and high
pass branches
When realizing individual crossover network develop-
ments or reconstructing existing concepts, the configura-
tions of the individual branches mentioned in chapters
4.1 and 4.2 can be combined with each other as desired.
However, the most common combinations of crossover
features for well-balanced speakers are:
6 dB/ 6 dB
6 dB/18 dB
12 dB/12 dB
As a general rule, any deviation from these indications in
combination with certain speakers may also be the ideal
crossover network!
4.4 DNU-300 as midfrequency branch (MP)
This branch of the network, in general called band pass,
limits the transmission range of the midrange speaker
towards the low and high frequencies. Thereby it is pos-
sible to construct the circuit as a sequence of a high pass
and a low pass (HPLP) or vice-versa (LPHP) or to con-
struct a "real" band pass.
With the DNU-300 only the construction of an LPHP
is possible. The component values for all of these cir-
cuits are always calculated in the same way! A lineariza-
tion of the inductive rise of the speaker impedance and a
level attenuation of the midrange speaker are possible.
4.4.1 Basic assembly
At first the DNU-300 must be wired as midfrequency
branch. Thus, a max. possible configuration results
shown in fig. 2.
1) Solder an insulated jumper between "+B " and
"IN H+".
2) Solder an insulated jumper between "-H" and "IN B-".
3) Solder an insulated jumper between "Z" and "+H".
4) Connections: input of the LPHP = "IN B+" and "IN H-
"; output to the midrange speaker = "+B" and "-B".
At the input side the midfrequency branch can now
either be connected by tri-amping or tri-wiring, bi-
amping or bi-wiring to the amplifier output or in case
of a basic connection type to one or both input
connection pairs of the bass / high frequency
DNU-300 ("IN B+"/"IN B-" or "IN H+"/"IN H-").
4.4.2 Midrange speaker protection
If the midrange speaker is to be equipped with a speaker
protective device, one of the devices indicated in chapter
4.2.1 "Tweeter protection" can be inserted into posi-
tion S1.
Important!
If no protective device is used, solder a jumper into posi-
tion S1 in any case.
4.4.3 Providing an impedance linearization
Any time a linearization of the inductive rise of the
speaker impedance is to be made, assemble positions
C2 and R1. Otherwise these places remain free.
4.4.4 Providing a level attenuation
Important!
If no level attenuation is to be made, insert a jumper be-
tween R2 and R3 (PCB imprint
).
